The Lion is Dead!
The Deed has been done...while enjoying morning coffee Jim & Andrew heard the snorts of a lion. They hurried down the camp road and encountered 3 old lions and a lioness in the tall grass not 100 yds from camp. Jim nailed a big black maned lion under the chin at 20 yds. (I'll leave the details for Jim to tell, but he wanted me to post their success!) Andrew said this is the biggest lion (and done properly without bait) he has taken in a long time!Needless to say after 2 hours of photos they had to walk 100 yds back to camp for their celebration!
Only the leopard left and 7 days of hunting to go!!!!!
Outstanding!!!!!!!!

MARK H. YOUNGAfter a start to the day like that I would hope they took the rest of the day off to absorb what happened. A drink in the morning would be more than justified after that. Wow!

May fordings never be too deep, And alders not too thick; May rock slides never be too steep And ridges not too slick.
And may your bullets shoot as swell As Fred Bear's arrow's flew; And may your nose work just as well As Jack O'Connor's too.
May winds be never at your tail When stalking down the steep; May bears be never on your trail When packing out your sheep.
May the hundred pounds upon you Not make you break or trip; And may the plane in which you flew Await you at the strip.

FrostbitSitting in the business room at the Taj in Lusaka. It's been a memorable trip. Brought way too much ammo.
I didn't bring a computer so I can't post any pictures and I will post a report after we get back to Alaska.
Bait Babe lived up to her nick name and had the longest shot of the safari resulting in a DRT. She will also be posting a report later.
Andrew will be posting a picture of the Lion after he gets home. As he would say, it was "proper".
Since you already know from Darin the Lion was actually taken at 40 yards with a facing shot under the chin. The follow up included quite a bit of adrenalin with the best of outcomes.
We also had a Lion ground blind experience in which Joyce proved her metal. A professional videographer could not have done better. Not often does one experience Africa's apex predator at 7 feet. Her video is rock steady.
Lastly, the area has plenty of game left and literally has an infestation of Lions. There were two other large, heavy maned, "shooters" with the brute I dropped.
I suspect Andrew's email box is full and it should be. This experience was beyond belief.
Loads of Elephants but none I wanted to pay for.
I'll post more from Heathrow tomorrow.

D. NelsonJim & Joyce;
Welcome back. I can't wait for photos and the full report (and maybe a teaser from Andrew). I'm going to miss my morning calls from the wilds of Zambia!!!!!
Congratulations for a safari experience of "one in a million"! You will have trouble trying to match this one.
Hugs, Darin

fairgameDarin,
Many thanks for the updates. The Lion Jim took was not black maned as such but nevertheless a huge bodied Kafue brute taken on foot.
Joyce and Jim will be posting reports and further photographs of their safari. Jim hunts for the pure experience and only asks that the game taken is mature.
As I am between hunts I just quickly want to add that Jim and Joyce's generosity and support this year was tantamount to the success of this safari. All they asked for was the true safari experience and for Jim an opportunity to hunt a trophy Kafue Lion. Their shooting and firearm manners were exemplary.
The hunt was priced under the two tier pricing system I employee and there was no pressure to take anything less.
Good things happen to good people.

Thanks for the compliment Andrew. It's part of what makes the "luck" eh? Although you did waver a bit in the confidence on my taking the Sitatunga at 200 yards.
Shame you didn't explain the recovery would including wading through Hippoland after dark with torches.
Madam enjoyed that one.
Cheers

200 yards? You wanted to take it at 300 plus with your .375 which made me sweat profusely. Presume that was a joke mate?

It was actually 346 ranged at that picture. I could have lobbed one in but the entrace would have been on top of the body and the exit on the bottom since the bullet would have been dropping back to Earth at a 45 degree angle.
