Cape buff in SA is a killer on the wallet .. Zambia prices: a) 1x1 - $ 8725 - plus plains game & optional overnight in Livingstone b) 2x1 - $ 7650 - plus plains game & optional overnight in Livingstone c) 4x2 - $ 7275 plus plains game & optional overnight in Livingstone Charter, rifle permit, dip and pack, bells whistles and lights ALL included in the above, no hidden costs .. The only other price you need to cover for is your international flights into Livingstone, your medical accident and trip cancel insurance, and finally the FREIGHT to ship the consignement from Lusaka Zambia to your home taxidermist .... If someone can offer the same quality ( deep bush location hunt ) and @ a better price then please let us all know .... Regards, Peter

Tanzania offers 2 Buff on a 7 day licence, which is unusual and it also offers a handful of plains game. In the Selous for example, (on a 7 day licence) you are allowed to take 2 Buff, 2 Wildebeest, 1 Zebra, 1 Impala, 1 Warthog and 1 Lichenstein's Hartebeest and it is (fairly) easily possible in practice. If I were choosing a Buff & PG venue for myself, and assuming I could afford it. I would choose the Selous Reserve Tanzania.

Folks, That's for the quick education ... Seems that there is a set of real trade-offs in the situation. Tanzania has limits on what can be hunted based on the length of the outing. Zim has some concerns about security. Mozambique doesn't have the quality of Buff as some others. I don't know much about Zambia, and RSA is pricey for Buff. Looks like combining a few head of plains game with a Buff is not a good plan due to limitations on length of stay in Tanzania. Any other conclusions that might be drawn from the available data? Any thoughts on Zambia? Good thing there is time to consider all this. Thanks!

It really depends on what you want. If your looking for a seven day hunt the areas in tanzania with a package are quite nice. Air charters can kill you there if you hunt the more remote areas. Ray really has a good package deal if you fit the package mode. Dont rule out zim for the best current value in africa. Yes the govt has problems but as of yet I havent heard of one documented case from the members of this forum where anyone was harrassed. Botswana is to pricy for what you get. I liked zambia but dont know how things are since the closure. If you dont feel comfortable in zim then go to tanzania. SA is for people that do not like the adventure and are willing to pay the price. It costs alot to move and keep buffalo fenced in.
