What do you mean when you refer you carry a rifle or a cartridge as a "backup"? It's an expression I read a lot in the area of dangerous game hunting. Sorry for a question a little stupid.

Thank you,

Oscar

oscar , it can mean several things -

as a backup rifle - it means a second rifle in case something happens to your first

a backup shot is a shot fired by another person after your first shot in the case that you first shot is not good.

a backup shooter is the person standing ready to do the above

i hope that this helps -

...and then there is backing up your own shot with further shots till the animal is down or out of sight! BACKING simply means helping out another hunter, extra shots to help the first one! The English language is sometimes confusing not only to those who it a second language but to those who speak nothing else!

Moja I think we need to cut some slack with Oscar using the english language, I imagine he means to say he now understands the meaning after the explanations by Mac and Ivan.

Do not worry, if even writing in the mother tongue in the forums is misunderstood, when you write a language not their own and over using the Google translator is very easy for situations like this occur. Thanks for the apology and I apologize for the misunderstanding.

Greetings and thanks,

Oscar
