Gents, This may have been posted before somewhere, I haven't seen it, but it's worth repeating if it has. Most Africsn countries do not accept US$ notes older than 2003, and if they do they generally charge higher bank processing rates than newer notes. Secondly, notes must be clean and un-blemished. So, any cash you take with you to Africa for tips, extras and so on should follow the above guidelines. You'll have a happier PH, trackers and camp staff! Cheers, Ade Uganda and Zimbabwe

All the cash I have seen there looks as old as Egypt's pyramids Africa is that picky now? When I was in Zambia in 2011, folks were very picky about the dates on $100.00 dollar bills. Bogus $100.00 bills were a big problem at that time.

Last time I was in RSA I was handing out old 20's as tips. No one complained. Except for the police, because I wouldn't give them a "little something extra" "Evil is powerless if the good are unafraid" -- Ronald Reagan "Ignorance of The People gives strength to totalitarians." Want to make just about anything work better? Keep the government as far away from it as possible, then step back and behold the wonderment and goodness.

I have had a problem in other countries when trying to convert older US dollars into the local currency. If a bill has a small tear or is written upon, many places will not accept it. This is a good topic for anyone traveling to "developing" countries when it comes to US currency. BH63 Hunting buff is better than sex!

Hey Ade, still trying to cash all that Monopoly money that I left you? I hope you are doing well, shoot me a message or email and let me know how you made out with those skins, and how things are going in Uganda. Good advice here, although most Dollars floating around the bush look like they have been buried in mud for 20 years!
