I'm sure most if not all here remember the video clip below, but I was perusing another site and clicked on the thread to find the words below (taken from http://www.24hourcampfire.com/...php/topics/3832793/1)

Now, I have no dog in the fight, and know less than nothing about Afican hunting, but the decription posted seems to not even pass a first level sanity check. I thought that any game wounded by a client must be bought and paid for, regardless of recovery/end result. If that's the case (not sure if this rule applies to canned shoots, admittedly), then how could a PH 'sell' the hunt for the supposedly wounded lion *again*? And yes, I'm probably beating a dead horse, but thought it interesting to read an account of the actual incident that riled so many folks up, and thought I'd share.

This is the clip in question:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v...ture=player_embedded

And the words from a poster on it:

"Dr GUlley was in south africa to hunt but not lion. he was in a bar with some friends one night when a PH that had had quit a bit to drink started talking about a lion that had been wounded and he tracked into a game preserve. DR Gulley told told him that he would like to hunt the lion.he said the PH gave him the you don't got the money look so he asked how much. the PH told him 10,000 and he agreed to it. this guy is worth millions owns about half of port aransas tx and is a big offshore fisherman. the video tells the rest. now is it possible the PH was bsing him i guess but Bryan always been a strait shooter for as long as i have known him. i knew about this lion he had shot for several yrs. but didn't see the mount till today as was doing some work at his house on the island but didn't realize that this video was of his hunt till he showed me it at his house and i remembered seeing it on here..."

Thoughts?

What, it's not plausible that a wounded wild lion was tracked INTO a fenced enclosure? It could happen! "Right, he's fallen for the old fenced-in safe haven for wounded wild lion trick! Quick, lock that gate and we'll see about finding some brave American bloke willing to take on this menace for us!" CLICK. "OK, that's done. Now where in the world could we possibly find anyone on such short notice to sort out this brute?". Furtive looks are exchanged, and then, a collective EUREKA!

"The bar is probably as fine a place as any to start!"

PT Barnum was dead right.

That video has been around for years and that description is just one of the many guises under which it has appeared on you tube.

I have always though that video clip would have been so much more entertaining if the lion had managed to sink its fangs or clawa into one or more of that party's members.

What is it on that pole in the final scene? A spotlight?

If you are hunting in Africa, when would you have time to go to a bar? I never saw one in the time I was in Zimbabwe.

I think the doctor should have put a ladder stand on one of the telephone poles.

Ahh Rich, you failed to take in the sights of Makuti Town, just west of the turn off to CMS's Makuti camp!

How many times did you pass the town or turn down the road... Always passing within a few hundered yards of refreshment.

Of course, the bottle store just east of the turn off is always good for a cold one too!

See now, I was told by an outifitter down in Corpus, that he knows this Hunter, might have booked his RSA hunt even (it's been a few weeks since we talked), and that he was told it was a man eater, raising hell, and asked if he was interested in helping out....and paying some money. That the guy is a nice/straight up dude and was conned into it. SO who knows the truth.
