My wife wants to shoot a croc very bad and does not want to shoot it badly. Should we work up loads with solids or premium soft points. She shoots a 300 H&H with 180 gr. Partitions. Would a 200 gr. flat point or cup point solid be better than a 200 gr. premium soft????

Lb,
I recommend a soft, and Noslers are fine..I would also highly recommend a head shot, and try to keep the croc out of the water if you can...

lb404,

I was a little off on my brain shot on my croc. My shot went about an inch too far to the left. I think if I had been using a solid it would have just drilled through and we would have lost him. As it was I was using a 338 250 TB and it blew out a 2" chunk of skull and anchored him.

Regards,

Mark

Thanks guys, softs are in. Now, the 180gr. Combined Technology moly bullets are gone, I have to work up a general load for big game again, 180 or 200 gr Nosler Partitions for general big game?????

For general big game I think the 180 Nosler in a 300 mag is hard to beat. It works good from mice to moose as they say. If I was only hunting elk and bigger I might give the 200's a try. It would be hard to go wrong with either one.

lb404,

I've used both the 180 and 200 NP's quite a bit and I think you would be happy with whichever one shoots the best in your wife's 300 H&H. Nosler Partitions are perhaps not the prettiest bullet after they have done their work but they do work every time.

Regards,

Mark

I use the 200 gr. Nosler part. almost exclusively in my 300 H&H and it works on everything....I used the 180 for years and it works also, but I like the 200 better...I even like the 220 real well.....

I like the 220 when hunting plainsgame where Lion, Buffalo and elephant are know to live...It works well on all the little stuff but has enough thump for the big stuff in a pinch or if a 50 inch bull steps out for a look....
