Ray:

Is there a particular donation that one might make in lieu of flowers, etc.?

I am sure a donation to SCI, NRA or the cancer foundation would suit Mary just fine...any worthy cause...

I have always been a big fan of donating to medical research instead of dontaing to florists or funeral directors, but that's just me...

I with you 500...I'm sure Mary would love to know you dontated to a good cause, George like Acacia and Baobab better than roses anyway....

I think what I will miss most is me and George aggrivating Butch and D'Arcy, damn but we got a kick out of that..Two old farts just being themselves, having a heck of a time roaming the halls of SCI, Dallas...Mims just wouldn't pay any attention to us, he has skin like a Rhino, and has always been sorta bullet proof..come to think of it Butch and D'Arcy didn't react much either, UNLESS they had a customer!!!!!! Ray,

I've tried to think of something to write to George's family and I just can't seem to find any words. I didn't know George at all well. We spoke at the SCI conventions quite alot and by phone for ten years, I always vauled his wit and very practical point of view on life in general. He was kind and honest in a less than kind world. I will miss picking up the phone and hearing " D'Arcy,it's old lonesome George, What's new?". Every child would do well to have a Lonesome George for an uncle.

When good men sit around the camp fire after a great day afield, and speak of the great people who have touched thier lives, there, George Hoffman shall be well remembered. As long as good men remember, George will live among us.
Not a bad epitath, that! Well remember!

D'Arcy,
What you just said would mean the world to Mary.. Mary is the salt of the earth and the best thing about George was Mary and we all, including George, knew that!! His daughters followed the same track, and one of them BTW has her PH license.

I have been out of town for three weeks and just see that George Hoffman has passed away.

I would like to thank our host, Saeed, and moderator John, for introducing me to Mr. Hoffman via the Accuratereloading forumn.

About a year and a half ago my wife interrupted me at my desk and said, "theres someone on the phone who wants to talk to you about elephant hunting."

We have four employees, two-way radios going off all the time, telphone calls on two lines plus FAX and e mail, a business to run, and I was surprised someone would want to talk to me about elephant hunting. My wife is a veterinarian and the best game spotter and butcher I have met, but there was still a hint of disaproval in her voice. An elephant hunter!

So this is how I met the charming George Hoffman. He was very interested in my experiences with quick twist 375 and my plan to test the 458 at 1-10, 1-12 and 1-14 twist which he learned of on accuratereloading.com.

I dont recall how he got my phone number but think it was through a mutual freind. What impressed me about Mr. Hoffman was that even thought he was one of the most experienced african hunters in America, he truly believed in the worth of testing bullets prior to hunting.

He was pleased to learn I was also going to test his beloved 416 in a 1-10 and 1-14 twist, and gave me many suggestions on my stop box and the range at which to test the bullets based on when "a charge was likely to develop."

After the tests which we kept in touch on, he also measued alot of his recovered FMJ and 400 gr Swift bullets for me to compare my results too.

I got the impression that if he could not hunt he could at least prepare for hunting. And this included using a quicker twist if it was called for.

I surely enjoyed my time on the phone, FAX, e mail and letters with George Hoffman, and would like to thank Saeed, Ray and John who drew him to this site.

Andy
