Thanks, yet again, Nick. I have had the pleasure of meeting Papa Wakefield about four years ago. The Kabini River Lodge is quite beautiful. Infact, it used to be the hunting lodge of the Maharaja of Mysore. Additional lodges have been added but for a change they are in harmony with the original structure and it's surroundings. It is also a game rich area and last I heard there were approximately 60 tigers in residence. www.junglelodges.com Regards, Rustam P.S.: Perhaps it would be best if we could start the 'India Section', without waiting any longer for Lynx's pictures. They will eventually come but I'd rather not hold my breath.

Rustam, I'm sure Lynx will make great contributions when he's ready. That said, it's easy to start a new Forum catagory but not so to keep it alive. We would require input from all directions to succeed in this, due to the fact that so much need be based on "times past" and pure conjecture, as to the possibilities for the restoration of hunting in India, of any variety. Should there be those out there with written materials, photos or knowledge of others who may have hunted there and are willing to share, they must come forward. I can tell you that finding information of this sort is very difficult. I search constantly, only rarely, coming up with a small gem. It would be a unique and wonderful thing, were it to succeed. I'll do my part ... that's all I can say.

Nickudu, Thank you very much for the post. We could expect a real treat whenever you do and I must thank you for your hard work in collecting these delightful gems. I agree with Rustam about the Kabini River Lodge being a spectacularly beautiful place. Mysore holds a special memory for me as I saw one of the last Khedda elephant captures many years ago. I also saw the pit system once as a boy. Speaking of Somerset Maugham, he wrote about shooting a tiger that had strayed into the billiards room of the Raffles Hotel in Singapore, a room that I tried to locate when I went there along with my friend and passionate SIngapore historian Jakobus Root many years ago but no one there seemed to know which room it was. This might be OT but I think my wife brought along two letters written by Maugham to my uncle Babulal Barai to the US as she did not want to leave them behind in India. I have figured out to post pictures from e-mails but not how to post scanned pictures on AR yet. Though these are not strictly about hunting, if there is any interest, I shall try and post them here. Thanks again for your always wonderful posts and good hunting! Mehul Kamdar "I ask, sir, what is the militia? It is the whole people. Thanks, Nick, I read'em with keen interest, and especially enjoyed the references to Somerset Maugham. I've read _Of Human Bondage_, but never got around to _The Razor's Edge_, but will sure try to now. I am a Kipling fan from early childhood, and I think Indian women are way cute, and Jim Corbett way cool, so anything on India floats my boat. I didn't start thinking about Africa until I read John Hunter at 10 years of age, and then moved on to Tarzan worship. India definitely appeals to the professional small boy in me. Letters from Maugham by Mehul would be something to look forward to, on many levels. Thanks y'all.

Nick, If nothing else, the Indian section, will at least be home to your posts on the subject rather than them getting 'lost' on the African section. I know for a fact that the African forum has many a lurker from India. A seperate section may just get them posting. Because of our anti-hunting laws, it will probably never be a big forum and I'm sure Saeed will be thankful for that. I will draw Lynx's attention to this post. Regards, Rustam

quote: RIP, I'll definitely find a way of scanning and posting the letters here as soon as possible. Thanks for the good words about Indian women - they are one of the few beautiful things the socialists have allowed to remain unaltered in the country. I'll drink a toast to Nick's and your good taste. Good hunting! Mehul Kamdar "I ask, sir, what is the militia? It is the whole people.
