Kind of off the major discussion but I've gotten a number of messages from folks here asking where I've been.

Last year I got recalled to active duty, Army, after being out of uniforn since 1993. (Never resigned my commission. Then again, as Jorge knows, as an officer you serve when asked.) Got sent to the 'stan. As a 50 something infantry major. Assigned to an infantry team. A real small one.

Without getting into specifics, got medevaced to Germany in mid Aug, on to the states labor day weekend, and then released from hospital care Thanksgiving week, and also released from active duty. This time for good.

Caution: shameless self promotion coming....

Besides running Hunter's Horn Adventures I've made a fair living writing. While I was in the 'stan I was notified that my book, 21 Days in Africa, published early last spring, took book of the year for 2008 from AGLOW, an outdoor writing group in 17 states.

A write up is under the books and video thread. I know some here have read it and sent me some nice comments.

At any rate, the company is still solid. Took a big hit being gone but still solid. I am fine and getting better every day. Got 10 and 10 (all originals), and am getting back into Africa shape.

It is sooo good to be back.

My husband and I had the pleasure of meeting Dan at the SCI Chicago Chapter Fundraiser last March.

I am very glad you are now home and wish you the best for a quick and full recovery.

We really enjoyed your book and hope you will continue your writing career.

No kidding, huh? I picked up that book at Borders a while back. Very good writing and definitely a fun weekend book. Felt like I was accompanying you on the trip.

Best wishes on your recovery and congrats on your book. My son recently graduated into the 3rd Battalion / 75th Ranger Regiment. He's heading off somewhere (I don't know where) fairly soon.

Thanks for your service and your sacrifice, glad you made it home.

Chuck

Chuck
