Hello Ray,
I recall you telling us that you have a long throated 7x57(m98?). That you are able to get a bit more "juice" from ,than the average 7mauser.

Are you able to tell us what velocity you are getting from her with 140,150,160,175gn pills?
What length barrel?
Do you load to full magazine box length?

Not Ray, but I have a long throated Ruger that will go 3000 fps with 140's, 2780 with 160's in a 22 in. barrel. I have another on an FN action with a 24 in. barrel and the velocity is identical. These will check out about 62000 psi with my pressure trace, that is psi, not cup approx. 50000 cup in round figures. Mine worked good on a 55 in. kudu and gemsbuck, etc a couple of years ago with 160 Nosler partitions.

Gee I have given that load before and the quasi's jumped all over me, so I don't do that anymore, they shamed me with their ignorance!! sofa clap

Actually if you have a long throated 7x57 like my old Brno Mod. 22F and a 06 lenth magazine you can seat a 160 gr. or 175 gr. Nosler half way up to the cannalure and get 2900 and 2700 FPS respectively with H414 with little trouble and little pressure...It is the only powder that will do that, and brass tested lasted 14 reloadings and 3 trims before I tossed it and thoes 5 rounds were still going strong as for as I could tell....I'll give you the loads if you email me...

Jstevens,
That sounds good to me. A 140@2950 or 160@2750 is all I was hoping for. Given that you are getting more than that with a 22-24" tube, I should not be dissapointed, I plan to have a 25" tube. thankyou for your reply J thumb

Hello Ray,
your exact loads are not necessary at the moment, the reason for my enquiry was to accertain what is possible out of the 7x57. As I stated to Jstevens, 160/2750 or above would impress me. Your and Js' figures plus my planned 25" barrel, are sufficient reason not to have to go to a 30/06. After one has awell performing 7x57, next logical step to me,would be 300H&H .
