For the guys who have been there, what would be your one choice of pill for warthog up to Eland?(200yds max.) Life is not always about winning or losing, but how you play the game.

I don't think you can go wrong w/ any of the good 160-175gr bullets. My pref. would be a 160gr NF, NP, TBBC or Swift or Woodleigh. Hey, it's a trip to Africa, why risk it using cheap bullets. LIFE IS NOT A SPECTATOR'S SPORT!

Just got done doing some testing on the Combined Technologies Partition Gold Moly Free. Darn good bullet, much better than the original Nosler Partition. Not one failed to perform as it was supposed to. Accurate over a wide range of seating depths, avg weight loss in both sand and stiffened parrafin was less than 10% (of 40 recovered bullets weighed), avg expanded diameter from sand was .372 (20tested), avg from parrafin was .396 (20 tested). Very good, reliable and inexpensive fodder. Hair, not Air! Rob Martin

Barnes TSX 160gr @ 2,700 fps. I takes a lot of animal to stop one of them! Montero

Woodjack, With the velocity you will get with the 7 X 57, I would be using a 160 grain Nosler Partition. Rich Elliott Rich Elliott Ethiopian Rift Valley Safaris

I used a 7x57 last year for all plains game. I used 175gr Nosler Partitions. VERY effective out to 200yds. Took several Kudu for meat and for natives. It's going to be my favorite plains game rifle. SCI Life Member NRA Patron Life Member DRSS

The heavy weights such as 160 or 175 would be the way to go since you include eland. With the low velocity of the 7X57 more lightly constructed bullets work very well. Boddington had good luck in Namibia with the 150 gr Sciroco out of a 7-08 but I don't think they shot eland. I think I would go with the 175 Nosler Partition since it will open well on small animals yet hold together as well as the tougher bullets on bigger animals. Just my opinion! 465H&H

I used 160 NP at 2780 fps on several up to the size of kudu with one shot kills. Eland would be a bit on the heavy side, but for sure could be made to work. I haven't used the North Fork in 7x57, but it would work as well. A shot not taken is always a miss

Used a 7x64mm on plains game last year with 175 grain SPCE S&B factory loads, all was perfect. I'd try the heavy Nosler Partitions in the 7x57mm, and get in a lot of practice on the rifle range to be sure I could hit the right spot every time. LLS

I have had very good luck with the 160 and 175 gr. Nosler partitions, the 175 gr. Woodleighs and the heavier North forks...I also found the 160 gr. GS Customs to be an unstoppable bullet and it killed very well indeed...anyone of these bullets work well on Eland and other plainsgame....I have a long throated 7x57 and a 06 size box, so I get a lot more juice from my 7x57 than most..All Brno M-21 and 22s are set up like this btw... Can't go wrong with any of the above... Mike Legistine actu quod scripsi? Never under estimate the internet community's ability to reply to your post with their personal rant about their tangentially related, single occurrence issue. What I have learned on AR, since 2001: 1. The proper answer to: Where is the best place in town to get a steak dinner? is…You should go to Mel's Diner and get the fried chicken. 2. Big game animals can tell the difference between .015 of an inch in diameter, 15 grains of bullet weight, and 150 fps. 3. There is a difference in the performance of two identical projectiles launched at the same velocity if they came from different cartridges. 4. While a double rifle is the perfect DGR, every 375HH bolt gun needs to be modified to carry at least 5 down. 5. While a floor plate and detachable box magazine both use a mechanical latch, only the floor plate latch is reliable. Disregard the fact that every modern military rifle uses a detachable box magazine. 6. The Remington 700 is unreliable regardless of the fact it is the basis of the USMC M40 sniper rifle for 40+ years with no changes to the receiver or extractor and is the choice of more military and law enforcement sniper units than any other rifle. 7. PF actions are not suitable for a DGR and it is irrelevant that the M1, M14, M16, & AK47 which were designed for hunting men that can shoot back are all PF actions. 8. 95 deg F in Africa is different than 95 deg F in TX or CA and that is why you must worry about ammunition temperature in Africa (even though most safaris take place in winter) but not in TX or in CA. 9. The size of a ding in a gun's finish doesn't matter, what matters is whether it’s a safe ding or not. 10. 1 in a row is a trend, 2 in a row is statistically significant, and 3 in a row is an irrefutable fact. 11. Never buy a WSM or RCM cartridge for a safari rifle or your go to rifle in the USA because if they lose your ammo you can't find replacement ammo but don't worry 280 Rem, 338-06, 35 Whelen, and all Weatherby cartridges abound in Africa and back country stores. 12. A well hit animal can run 75 yds. in the open and suddenly drop with no initial blood trail, but the one I shot from 200 yds. away that ran 10 yds. and disappeared into a thicket and was not found was lost because the bullet penciled thru. I am 100% certain of this even though I have no physical evidence. 13. A 300 Win Mag is a 500 yard elk cartridge but a 308 Win is not a 300 yard elk cartridge even though the same bullet is travelling at the same velocity at those respective distances.
