Has anyone actually used the Woodleigh 350 gn solid in .375 H&H on Elephant? How did they work and what was the penetration? Can you tell us about the it? I looked thru old posts but couldn't find anyone using them on Elephant. Allen It's a Mauser thing, you wouldn't understand.

Not to hijack this, Allen, but not for nothin' . . . . I have been reading these heavy for caliber meanderings for quite some time, and I have noted the official stamp given them by Norma and others, and I have been utterly baffled and amused. If an SD of .300 or even more, for Goodness' sake, i.e., a 300 grain .375" bullet, or a 400 grain .416" bullet, or even a .341 SD 500 grain .458" bullet, is not enough, then: GO WITH A BIGGER DIAMETER BULLET. 'Nuff said, IMHO. Now, talk amongst yourselves. Mike Wilderness is my cathedral, and hunting is my prayer.

Haven't used them on Ele but have on the highly alert Hard wood Gum tree. Excellent straight line penetration. Have used the similar 320grns 9.3mm solid of Buff and eland. They just zip on through.

Norma sent a few pckets of various calibres out for use on the zim proficiency. Can report that the 450grn .404 works very well. circumstances dictated that the .375's were used on body shots rather than head shots. Part of Norma's aim, particularly in .375 was to get impact velocity down to the level were filures are rare (ie 2400fps and down). It is (alledged) that it is the nigh impact speeds on the .375 that cause problems and why generally a 286grn bullet from a 9,3x62 out penetrates a .375 (on ele). Of course, this may also have something to do with barrel twist rates etc, but those who have used the neavy for cal bullets in .416, .404 and .458 Lott have been very impressed and are staying with the Norma loaings.

I have not shot elephant with them but I have shot a lot of buffalo lengthwise and I would not hesitate to use them on elephant, as the penetrate as deeply in buffalo as the old proven elephant solids like the Barnes, 300 gr. Woodleighs and right up there with the GS Customs flat nose solids which I am quite fond of.
