Anyone familiar with the Shangoni area of Zimbabwe for Tuskless?
I'm looking at booking a hunt for tuskless elephant and one of the opptions is late July or late October in Shangoni area(east of Bulawayo) of Zimbabwe. I know the weather and vegetation will be vastly different July to October. But how about elephant numbers and the numbers of tuskless? Anyone hunt there or famailiar with the area or someone who is?

Thanks in Advance.

Check with Charl or Frederik at Infinito Safaris. Both are members here. We have 10 cow Elephant permits for Zim with a second cow at half price. If there are any left over Buff, Hippo or Croc, you can get them at the trophy fee rate. 7 day hunt.

Could it be Shangani?
Make sure you book with a reputable company that is not hunting on stolen land.

ozhunter,

Thank You for the correction; I didn't even realize my mistake. It is Shangani. I have previously hunted around the Gonarezhou but I'm not familiar with Shangani area. Is this mostly private or Tribal land. Are the elephant in this area overflow from the Gonarezhou?

Stradling, sorry, Shangani is far away from the Save!!

500 fan, 62-65 thousand hectares of the original ranch owned by the Oppenheimers is still in their hands. African Trackers are hunting there.

There are +/- 150 Eles there (there weren't any when I used to hunt there 10 years ago). They think they have come from Hwange but are not entirely sure. All of them are bulls, when the rains come half of them leave.

Hope this helps, any more info you need, just ask. Cheers.

Shangani is an area between the towns of Bulawayo and Gweru on the main road to Harare.
It is highvelt farmland with a light scattering of Acacia thorn bush. A quite pretty area and be warned, it gets awfully cold up there during April, May, June, July and August.
There are lots of stolen farms up that way but as Ilitshe states, there are some that have been spared the disaster.
Not sure on the numbers of Tuskless.

I recommend you contact Brooklands Safaris and talk to them about what you want to hunt.

They are good people and you will not have any problems with hunting with them.
