Sobering and credibile analysis. Private property rights are indeed the foundation of capitalism and the "get off your butt and work" factor in a modern economy.

Unfortunately, several countries continue to ignore this lesson. In South Africa President Thabo Mbeki expressed interest during his latest state of the nation speech in revisiting the "willing buyer, willing seller" principle for land redistribution. South Africa is expected to begin expropriating farmland at state-determined prices this year, part of a broader attempt to address the economic inequalities inherited from apartheid.

South Africa Deputy President Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka agrees that the pace of land reform should be accelerated. "There needs to be a bit of oomph," she said in a 2005 interview. "That’s why we may need the skills of Zimbabwe to help us."

South Africa can't keep Zim refugees from beating down the door, yet they want to send RSA into the same chaos?

An excellent article, backed by undisputed statistics and one that every hunter going to Zimbabwe should read and understand. Of course, all of those so-called leaders in South Africa and Namibia should have a copy of this article to rely upon in making their decisions regarding accelerated land reform and land re-distribution in those two countries, all of which appear to be inevitable. Who's ready and willing to send it to them?

My question is way off topic for this board, but at least goes with the thread. Can anyone suggest a place to find current and historical info on the RSA and Namibian economies? I'm looking for info like market capitalisation, interest rates and employment figures. Basic stuff, but not what they teach us geologists to look for. If you've read the article, your guess about why I'm interested is correct.

Thanks,
Dean
