Speaking for myself, I don't worry about being under gunned, but when I am then I am extremely careful and aware that I am shooting a gun too light for what I am hunting....

It's no big thing, I've been undergunned many times by circumstance and got away with it quit well, I suspect most of you are over gunned as a matter of fact, and thats not all bad if you can shoot, same applies for undergunned...

The main criteria is a proper bullet that is properly constructed for the game at hand backed up by proper bullet placement, in which case a 30-06 will kill the mighty elephant and has many times..

I have a notion that many who profess that being undergunned is total distruction, if they were honest, are only speculating and passing on what they have read and perceived, but have not actually used smaller calibers on live dangerous game..It occurs to me that some of the smaller calibers have been very deadly on game much to my surprise..An 8x57 on Buffalo, a 308 on Buffalo, a 250 Savage on Elk and Richard Dyers wife killed cape buffalo with that caliber, amazing...

I am not condoning underpowered guns for everyone by anymeans, and I prefer large bores for my dangerous game hunting, but their is room for discussion in such matters..I would not turn down a free elephant hunt if someone handed me a .308 with solids...
