This is the proud daddy. I took this photo with a long telephoto lense - Nikon D80, Nikon 80-400mm VR - from out side the fence, as he was not in a mood to let me come close in side.

We now have four chicks hatch.
Also, we have some funny looking rabits from South America - cannot seem to remember their names. One just had a new born too. It was very difficult to photograph, as it ran into its burrow as soon as it saw me.
Saeed! Please tell me that Hessa hasn't grown that much? Gosh, seems like only yesterday she was a small baby! What a beautiful little girl!

Rusty,
Hessa is four and half now - yep, time sure flies!
She loves to shoot her Chipmunk, and has become our official tour guide for any visitors to see the animals and birds.
This afternoon she told Walter she was going to show him the baby ostriches. He said "Be careful, they will bite you"
She answered him "They are my babies. They won't bite me. If you touch them they will bite you!"

Hi Saeed
Is the funny South American thing a capybara perhaps, if so, cool!!!
21 May 2007, 18:24
FRANKIE2000That funny looking thing is actually called a Mara. They are from Argentina and they basically take the place of deer and antelope there. They are very cool. As rodents go they are probably my favorite.
Saeed,
What a beautiful little girl. I am sure that you are quite the proud father. Certainly more reason to be proud than the ostrich's parents that's for sure.

Your daughter Hessa sure has grown since the last picture I saw and looks a lovely young girl.
The only negative it that first picture posted of the new born chix, it looks a bit like my hair when I wake up in the morning and look in the mirrow(-:

Hear and forget. See and remember. Do and understand.
Not sure of the exact number, but a few days only.
These chicks get bigger as you just watch them.

There were 8 of them ..... the ostrich thing!!!! 4 die in the pool .... drinking water I suppose..... far more than needed for just thirst!! Anyhow the other 4 survive in this rubber boat. But Saeed was still trying to learn them swim ..... in the shallow water. With that long neck they may see onother day before the pool fills up again!!!
