I reckon the bottom end of the KNP is probably burning......... yesterday we had fireplanes over the house most of the day and today the whole of White River and surrounding area is covered in thick smoke that stinks of burning bush....... usually the only time it's that bad is when the KNP is going up big time. Confused

If anyone is scheduled to visit that area in the next week or so, it might be an idea to enquire about the situation and maybe consider going to the middle or top end of the park.

I'll post more if I hear anything.

Watching the local news there seems to be a lot of fires around but big fires in the KNP is such bad news........ last one killed a lot of Elephant and Rhino especially.

I've just been out on the stoep and my searchlight and nose tells me the smoke is still getting worse.

I was there in June after a buffalo hunt. I'm sorry to hear of this. KNP is such a wonderful place, hopefully the damage won't be severe.

If we have a bit of early rain the veld should recover quickly.

The fires in the tree plantations causes lots and lots of damage in the eastern Mpumalanga high veld...

My prayers go to the people that lost loved ones and have loved ones injured in these fires

Dan,

don't be put off if you're in the area already, all you'll have to do is not go in at the bottom end near White River etc - just drive on a bit further to Hoedspruit area and go in one of the gates there............ if you pass by White River and have half an hour spare, swing by the house and have a beer with us. Call me on 0832 777114 and I'll guide you in.

Of course, if you're in Alberta, it'll be a bit of a schlep to get here. Wink

I understand that 40 people have died in the veld fires around the country...

I hope that the weather will calm down now and that the guys will get the fires out.

It sure will help to get a bit of early rain this year...
