Thought the lads would be interested in this big croc I just took in the Kafue. The client Chris Gaby was an excellent chap from Texas. It is the biggest taken to date and measured well over 15 feet. Crocs such as these are few and far between. My car incurred some damage whilst loading it and from now on I will stick with the 10 - 12 footers. Big crock!! Can anyone tell me if there's a way to take these guys withoug thooting that big hole through the skull? I'd love to have a croc skull amongst my little collection. | |||

calgarychef1 I think the best shot on a Croc without smashing the scull up is the spine shot. Which is where the neck joins the head at the back of the smile. I have filmed three Crocs been shot this way and it works well but you have to right on the money because if you miss the spine your Croc will vanish back into the water. Ermmmmmmm can I just point out that it looks like the Land Rover didn't break at all. The (probably Japanese) bolt on accessory broke. Looks to me like the Landy was just tickety boo!  | |||

Calgary, I used a .375 Barnes tsx, which is a tough bullet. There was skull damage which the taxidermist was able to repair so the casual viewer would not notice. It was not the best repair job so I supplemented with white glue, closely matching the skull in color. Perhaps a solid would do even less damage. I also shot twice into the shoulder area to help ensure reflexive movement was minimized. It was a very interesting hunt. | |||

It appears that it was the tailgate that broke, If I remember correctly it was not original LR equipment, rather a trunk he salvaged from a '47 Studebaker. Well done Andrew, we need to speak about your croc photography. | |||

I got a back scenes tour at Croc World in Sun City in 2004. Got in the pen with a 18' Croc. The size difference from 15' to 18' or even 16'to 18' is unimaginable. Namely the width/girth/height. The target for the spine shot, just behind the"smile," is a bit larger than the brain. See "The Perfect Shot" for an illustration of both. I used the spine shot for a 13.5 foot croc and it never moved except for reflex twitching. Indy Life is short. Hunt hard. | |||

Never heard of this species. A subspecies of waterbuck? It was a bit ironic this evening when reading this post that a 14' gator was shot in the Trinity river about 1/2 way between Dallas and Houston ( Dallas evening news broadcast). It was a whopper as well. They said it would approach 900 lbs.
