holzer37521 inch barrel
This on behalf of a friend who is purchasing a parker-hale in 30-06 for his 10 year old son. The thing is is that it has a 21 inch barrel. Is that enough?

JBrownThe "standard" length for non-magnum cartridges is 22".
There will be no real disadvantage having a 21" barrel, and because it will be used by a smaller shooter it would be preferable to a 22". IMO

namibiahunterIf the price is right then a 21-inch barrel .30-06 is fine for a 10-year old.
Here's a pic of my then 11-year old with his Remington Model Seven .308 Win with an 18 1/2 inch barrel. He's on the small side but he did just fine with it using Hornady Light Magnums.

RiaanIt’s way more than enough. Both my boys have hunted from a young age. By the time they were 10, both used a 7 x 57. Best thing you’re buddy can do is to download the ammo to 2200 fps or less. This reduces perceived recoil significantly, while giving a very useful trajectory out to 150 m.
