Geo. Hoffman Update

This is to make you aware of the battle my chubby buddy is fighting at the moment.
PH Geo. Hoffman was admitted to San Angelo Community Medical Center in San Angelo, Texas yesterday with stomach pains.
Geo. has been having a time with bone cancer of late.
Tomorrow (8/8) they will do exploratory surgery on him to see if maybe the cancer has gone to his liver.
He and wife Mary could use good wishes and prayers right now.
Please keep them in your thoughts.
It was my good fortune to go on my fist safari with Geo. as my PH in TZ, 1992. We were hunting deer at my ranch in west Texas before that and have shared a number of good campfires together.

I had the opportunity to meet Mr. Hoffman at the Dallas show. What a fine gentleman and a fine gentle man. I would have given quite a bit to share a campfire with him someday. I guess I'll have to settle for Mims. [Wink]

Harry I just answered your E-mail on this subject! Goerge can't stay in a hospital, we've got some more game to chase. I'll give him a call today!

Folks, for those who do not know Mr Hoffman, you are the poorer for that sittuation! George Hoffman is a typical Texan, he never met anyone who did not become a fast friend immediately. All the PHs I've met over the years, have been cut from Much the same cloth, but George is one in a million. There just seems to be something "GOOD" about people like George, and in all the years I've known him, I have never heard a bad word aimed at his integrity, or his ability as a PH.

Please keep George, and his family in your thoughts, and for those so inclined, your prayers! [Frown]

Harry, thank you for the information. My thoughts and prayers are with George and his family.

I have an old friend who taught me to build rifle stocks who is going thru the latter phases of cancer right now. I sat with him the other day and we shed a tear together as I told him what he has meant to me in my life, not just as a mentor but as a person.

My thoughts and prayers are with George and his family. I don't know him but he is legend. His posts on these forums reflect a real gentleman, which is what the ranchers around Sonora used to tell me.

I just finished George's book, my copy of which George graciously signed. For those of you who haven't read it, it is worth the money and effort to get a copy of it. It's a good read. I missed a chance to hunt with George and Ray last November which I fear I will truly rue. My prayers are with George and his family. I had looked forward to meeting George and hopefully sharing a campfire with him. Ku-dude

George Hoffman is a positive man. I am sure he is making the best of it as he always has, no matter what he is facing down right now. Hopefully he will be slaying some dragons while briefly confined, and out and about very soon.

Hunt onward George! God bless you and yours, George Hoffman, as you have blessed this world. Our prayers for you tonight, get well and go hunting soon.

Best wishes and prayers to George and family

I don't know the man, haven't read his book, but have heard of him before and always in the positive.

From his posts that I have seen on this board he appears to be knowledgable and a gentleman.

Best wishes so he can join us here again and also in the field.

This is a message from a mutual friend of ours, Carl Kunath, who owns a gun store in San Angleo where Geo. and I hang out.

I visited George after work today.

Mary and one granddaughter were present; shortly his daughter from Dallas
came in.

The conversation was reasonably light but the situation is freely discussed
and I think everyone knows the full seriousness of the situation. George is
calm enough but knows he is looking death squarely in the eye.

Today's exploratory surgery for possible bowel obstruction was canceled as
that condition had improved by itself. Unfortunately, the current CAT scan
shows significant cancer present in the liver and no mention was made of
surgery for that problem. George is trying to reschedule for chemo therapy
with the facility in Dallas.

The situation is grim indeed. The invasion of the liver is about as serious
as it can get. It appears that his cancer is a nasty, aggressive version
that is absolutely going ape-shit in his body. If the chemo doesn't arrest
the progress of the disease, we will surely lose our friend.

As George said a few weeks ago, "It's a dirty deal."

Had met George only briefly in Dallas this spring in Ray's booth to buy his book and get it signed. He definitely is a gentleman who has a reputation for the love of hunting and DGR. His contributions to the sport are a legacy. My wishes and prayers are with him at this moment. God's blessings for a rapid recovery.

My father also is in a struggle with cancer at present. My prayers to George and his family. If you haven't got one of his books in the past now is the time. It is a great book on African hunting. Now you can still get an autographed copy and I am sure they can use the money for medical bills. With all admiration and respect to a great man. "D"

George was dismissed from the hospital yesterday and has returned to Sonora.

Sunday, he will travel to Dallas.

Wednesday, he will have a consultation with a chemo therapy doctor at the
Arlington Cancer Center and it is anticipated that treatments will begin
almost immediately and continue for some weeks.

George will be staying with his daughter:
