I only saw part 2 last night. I usually don’t watch Bone Collectors because it seems to be mostly about hunting Whitetails. And I have to say that I like Michael Waddell, but I don’t like Whitetail hunting shows (not a lot of whitetails to hunt here in California).

With Bone Collectors think I’m in their “target audience” (big game hunter in his early 30’s) and I can see how a lot of people like the show. It’s a little faster and a little more “fun” then the other shows. Their intros, interviews, music, and basic overall style (even their commercials) are different then the other shows (especially the African shows) and I think that’s a good thing.

I think the episode was good. I’m glad that you guys talked a lot about the meat going to the people and thought you guys did a good job talking about how hunting helps. I thought that the camera on the scope was a good idea, but I think they showed too much footage of it. I wish they showed more animal footage (big game, small game, birds…) and less “interview” footage, but overall I thought it was a good show. It reminded me a lot of my safari with my brother (but without the DG).

And I have to say it’s nice to see hunters in Africa shooting something besides a Blaser or Weatherby. Not too many shows have “younger” guys running around the African bush having a great time.

Congrats on your Elephant and Buffalo. beer

I watched episode 2 last night. Overall I enjoyed it. The photography, the editing, the actual hunting, the comments regarding why elephant hunting is desirable were all very good. I didn't have a problem with the clowning around, although it doesn't appeal to me. I think part of that is generational, my Sons would probably enjoy it. As a suggestion, PHs are often characters, I'm sure Ronnie Blackburn is one, and it would add to the show to hear a short story or anecdote from his years of experience.
What I don't get is the "brotherhood of the bone collectors" bit. This is the first time that I've seen any of this series so I haven't been exposed to it before, but that shtick left me cold.
I prefer TAA but would watch this show again.
By the way, nice shooting, congratulations on the ele and buff.

I've never seen a bad hunting show, it's just that some are better that others rotflmo

I didn't see part I but part II looked good to me.

So what if MW kept waving around a T/C, CB goes on everyweek about Hornady ammo in a Ruger rifle topped w/a Trijion scope, so what...somebodies gotta a pay for me to watch these shows.

Maybe there will be more BC shows about other dangerous game or plains game, I hope so. It seems to me that TAA has way too much Cape Buff, Ele, Hippo and Crocs and not enough plains game.

Man I know what you guys are saying! Having fun while hunting! Who heard of such a thing. When I hunt I like it to be like my job and completely not enjoy it w/ my friends!!!! Also shoot an Ele w/ a Remington bolt gun!!!! My god who are these backward savages!!!!!!!! Roll Eyes

Lighten up its just a TV show.
I thought it was entertaining. Not as serious or in depth as TAA but a nice change of pace for a minute. I dont watch MW too much as I don't really enjoy watching bow hunting. I enjoyed Jim Shockey's addition too. Again nice change of pace but probably wont watch too much BC as too much bow hunting for my taste. Also if my memory serves me correctly the Ele died just as dead w/ the bolt gun as a .700 Nitro H&H double could do.

Aaron,

I have never watched the Bone Collector before this episode. I really like the use of "split screen photography" especially during the live action scenes. I thought the show was enjoyable and excellent shooting on your part.

I also agree with TerryR about Blackburn. A few minutes of Blackburn by the campfire telling stories of the past would have really added to the show.

Aaron,

Good shooting on the ele and buff. That's putting them down.

I enjoyed your show last night. It's not TAA, but that's OK. It also wasn't sitting with a crossbow or archery gear in a blind overlooking a baited waterhole. thumb

Was that a donkey running through the bush?

It was good to see a group of friends having fun in hunting camp. My last two hunts in africa I went alone, and I missed those friends around the campfire (or table) evenings.

Very good use of the split screens. I hate shows where the host sits and talks and talks and talks. Narrating with the split screen was a nice touch.

I wouldn't want to see it on every show, but I liked the way you showed what happens to the ele meat, and Michael telling about the elephant overpopulation was also good. It seems that most non-hunters in America believe that elephants are endangred.

I also enjoyed the part at the end where MW was teaching Shockey how to talk "freak nasty."

Keep up the good work.

Aaron, I enjoyed it. It is typical BC style, Wadell is a funny guy and enjoys what he does.

Guys - Thanks for watching, and I hope most of you were entertained!! I realize BC is a whole different animal than alot of other shows, including TAA, but I thought it was fairly well done. At least Part II for sure!

Aaron - first and foremost congrats on the cool critters and for keeping us all informed. Part two was even better and as I said before really liked part one. Good overall production.

I won't exclude myself, because I do it some also, but a lot of the negative comments on the BC show are really hypocritical. It's more of the "if it's not how I do it, I don't like it" crap we see a lot of here.

All of us old farts preach that the hunt is more than just the kill, it's the fun, good time with friends, the sights, smells and all that goes along with an adventure that's important. We also stress the importance of getting our youth involved in hunting and the outdoor experience. But-----now when someone comes along (MW) who is doing this very thing some are quick to badmouth him. The youth, our kids, of today do not listen to the same music we did, don't dress the same, hair is different and on and on. I know I don't listen to the same music, dress the same as my Dad and Grandad.

In my time, it was Fred Bear and Gordon Eastman videos that were the rage. Excellent productions for the time, but no where near the quality we see today. Outdoor programs were rare, but I watched each and everyone I could and took all the advice, advertising and adventure that was handed out. It's important that our youth get that same chance and MW is doing just that, staying in touch with the next generation and giving them the same exact thing we got from our generations spokesmen.

Personally I try and stay "hip" as they say with most things out there. Most all of my hunting companions are 20/25 years my junior. I like to think this keeps me young and in touch. It's cool we all have our double guns, safari clothes, and are able to take such great adventures to Africa and all, but most of us didn't start there. We all had 22's, chased the local rabbits and squirrels, listend to our mentors of the time and grew up to be the stubbon, old coots we have now become. Let's give these new guys a break, we don't have to agree on whether they do it "our" way, as long as it gets done.

Ranting over, I know thank God!!

Aaron,
Congrats on the great trip you had. I enjoyed both shows very much.

As far as BC goes, I really like the message they are bringing to those types of shows. They express how I feel about hunting. It is something I am, and I am not going to apologize to anyone for it. We hunters are not the bad guys. About time to do away with all the PC crap.

I don't agree with everything, they show. But it is one of the few shows I record.

I also knew Nick Mundt before he started guiding for 7J outfitters in NE WY, filming for Realtree and became an industry person.

My wife went to high school with his brother. Everthing he states in the beginning of the show is true. He is a die hard hunter, even though he hunts with a compound. Wink Just kidding.

I am more a traditional guy myself. archer Nick never did understand my passion for traditional archery.

I judge most of these shows by if I would be willing to spend a hunting camp on/with them. I think a BC hunt would be a gutbuster.

IMHO, which ain't worth much, anybody that doesn't find anything entertaining about Bone Collectors, and may ever have found either episode of this series "rather appalling" (said with a snobbish, almost british accent), has one or more of a couple of possible problems. Maybe he's wearing his shorts too damned tight to possibly enjoy anything, or maybe he's some crotchety old bastard who hates everybody, especially those damned kids. Or maybe he's some uppity, holier-than-thow, hypocritical s.o.b. who doesn't even need to own a tv, much less a computer, just more caviar and grey poupon.

Sorry, I had to take a little rant. Some of these arrogant old bastards piss me off sometimes. No disrespect to my elders, but off your high horse and get back down to earth with the rest of us lugs. If you don't enjoy hunting and having fun doing it with your friends, you're in it for the wrong reasons. Micheal Waddell and his crew, to my knowledge, have never shown disrespect to any animal or our sport or heritage. I've seen Michael, on Road Trips, tear up with joy and excitement over killing a monster elk, and then again when he was able to take his dad to New Mexico for his first elk and he was along for it. Waddell is about my age and at some point in all his shows, makes a point to talk about how important it is to be in the woods with your family and friends, or how important it is to take your kids out and introduce them to the wild and to hunting. He promotes our sport, well. Guys like Waddell are the future leaders of our sport. They are what it takes to keep the young people today interested and we can't stand to lose any hunters now. Numbers have been slowly dwendling over the years and if Waddell is what it takes to get the kids out from in front of those damned video games, then where do I send my check in support of his cause?

Stepping down from my soapbox...

Aaron, I thought the show was great. You did a great job shooting as well as representing our hunting family. I appreciate guys like you who still enjoy being out there and can have fun while on a "serious" hunt. Keep up the good work and tell Waddell he has a few supporters here at AR.

Sorry if I've offended anyone, nah, not really.

I am certain the 8th level of hell is Michael Waddell attempting to read aloud from War and Peace. That moron pisses me off when I see him on a hunting shows. I have been in hunting camps all over the US and in a few foriegn countries and I have never encountered anyone who acted like him or his simple minded hillbilly crew. I hope people don't think all hunters act like that asshole. We all have fun when we hunt, but having fun doesn't mean you have to turn hunting into an episode of Jackass/Punk'd with NASCAR lingo thrown in for culture.

I watched the show because it covered hunting in Botswana. I thought maybe the approach would be different........wrong. Now I can go back to avoiding that idiot anytime the subject includes him appearing on a hunting show. If I never hear "freak, nasty, big ole, deddie rabbit" again in my life it will be too soon.

Shut up and hunt!

Aaron,

You guys did a great job. I know you weren't in control of editing and if you had been it would have been a bit different, but still of great quality.

I am a Waddell fan, if that wasn't already obvious. I think he's a really genuine guy. He's relatively young, like me, and I can relate to him, as he is like myself and lots of my friends. Lots of ribbing and slap-stick humor amonog us. I have friends that have been around Waddell and actually been out with him and they thought he was one of the funnest, funniest people they ever met. Not a bunch of acting on tv, but really Michael. That's the same kind of thing I hear out of folks like Craig Boddington, who of course, is a completely different personality. But I'd be willing to bet Craig played his share of grab-ass 30 years ago.

Well done again Aaron. Keep it up,

David Walker
