Perhaps Karl or someone else with DSC will weigh in with an explanation of the screw up with The Adolphus. Looks like a bunch of folks booked at The Adolphus . . . even folks that received confirmation emails as recently as this week for reservations made months ago . . . are being relocated to yet to be named hotels due to overbookings. Very odd situation to be occurring days before the convention. You book early to get a specific hotel and then end up being assigned some other hotel, which at this point we have not been told what hotel and where it is. Just odd. Hopefully this is limited to The Adolphus and not other large convention hotels like the Omni, Aloft, Magnolia, etc. The saving grace is that the group of us staying at The Adolphus are all apparently being relocated to another hotel, so we will not end up being split between several locations.

Really concerning news. I stay at the Adolphus all the time. Booked months ago and have combined this year with business meetings. Have people meeting there for breakfast, etc. Calling them now. Thanks for the heads up.

How the hell are they over booked when they have confirmed your booking??

This is the sort of establishment one should avoid at any cost!

First, I called their reservations folks with Marriott and they said they only showed a reservation earlier this month. But these boilerooms are notorious for misinformation and I didn't have confirmation numbers and all because my secretary does all that.

Then I called the hotel itself. (214) 742-8200. The Adolphus is one of the best hotels I use. My favorite in Dallas. The staff there is superlative. My reservations are fine and intact and they were very, very helpful. If you have questions, I'd recommend you call the hotel itself, not the reservation system. They really are great. It's the new booking system that I think is the problem.

Best of luck to anyone affected.

The hotel sent an email this afternoon to a number of those affected. The email was from the Director of Sales and Marketing for The Adolphus.

Had to double check my reservations, I guess booking the Hyatt Regency is turning out OK.

When i Was booking in November many of the motels did not have rooms for the Dates of the convention. I kept looking at the different motels to make sure that i would not have to move for my stay.

I am thinking that the Adolpus Motel did not have all the days open when I made my reservations.

Then they figured me out too... got the same email. Kind of a PITA since we don't know where we will be relocated. We do get the first night for free. Hope Tom Bodett leaves the light on for us...

I will weigh in and explain as best I can, I am in Reno and learned of this day before yesterday and we still do not have a reasonable explanation. This is what we know as of today:
The Adolphus over sold "around" 200 rooms, of those rooms we are fairly certain that 42 were in the DSC "block". Of these 42, 10 were moved to the OMNI, 10 were moved to the A Loft and the rest were moved to the Lorenzo. These guests (and I assume the other 160 plus) will have their first nights room and room tax comped, the email from the Adolphus should have made included that fact but apparently didn't. By the way, if one of you that received the email from the Adolphus I would sure like to read it if you would mind forwarding a copy (email address below). The Adolphus was supposed to send an email to those affected explaining what and why this happened, but it appears they haven't done so. Those affected will receive an email from DSC and Connections Housing with an explanation (as we currently know it) and an apology from DSC and Connections Housing. We are demanding an explanation from the Adolphus with an explanation of what happened plus the guarantee of the first night room and tax being covered. I'll post the letter when we receive it.
I'm sorry this happened and you can bet this will be a topic of post convention meetings.
Also, the other issue of the OMNI selling out so quickly is (and has been) being worked on and a workable solution will be in place before next years convention bookings open.

Here is the official letter from the director of sales and marketing at the Adolphus:

quote:
Hello from The Adolphus,

Greetings from the Senior Leadership Team at The Adolphus. I regret to inform you that we will have to relocate your upcoming reservation for Dallas Safari Club to another partner hotel. We recently experienced a systemwide glitch in our reservation system that caused an issue with our available inventory. Unfortunately, our hotel was unintentionally overbooked for much of next week. This in no way was the fault of Connections Housing or the Dallas Safari Club. However, both aforementioned parties are aware of this situation.

The entire team at the Adolphus has been working diligently to find the best solution for you. We have secured rooms for you at a DSC partner hotel that is of equal caliber as The Adolphus. In addition, the hotels are on the DSC Shuttle line to the convention center. We realize this is somewhat of an inconvenience, so we will be paying for your first night of room and tax at the newly assigned partner hotel.

The DSC and Connections Housing has requested that we provide you with your new confirmation number by Monday. We will send that information to you along with the hotel name as soon as we have it on Monday. Thank you very much for your understanding. We are sorry to have caused you any inconvenience. If you have additional questions, please feel free to reach out to me directly.

The Adolphus is contacting all those affected and sending DSC a list so that we can follow up and make sure everyone is taken care of.

I just saw this. I got an email from adolphus on Saturday asking me if I wanted to upgrade my room?? So if they had rooms for upgrade, why would they need to move some out? I will definitely be calling today.

Maybe there's an anti-hunting mole in their management and they want all hunters out?

Moving standard rate payers to another hotel to hit up others for a $$ upgrade sounds about right in this day and age of “nickel and dime economics.”

A few years back a group of us stayed at the Adolphus for DSC. When we checked in, only one of the three rooms had been cleaned. The other two still had trash, dirty sheets, etc. Their laundry broke down, so after two days we ended up buying out own towels at Walmart. The concierge and valets were great, but the front desk staff were very rude and unhelpful. All that for only $245/night per room!

Booked a last minute room at Hotel Indigo, even though they listed as fully booked until last week. Good luck.
