I seem to recall reading about a bar in Maun that was the prefered gathering place of the local PH's. I'd like to check it out next week if, in fact, it exists. Anyone know?

Historically that would have been Riley's, but when I was there in 2005 it had been converted into an internet cafe.

The current "it" bar is across from the airport, I believe. I cant remember the name though.

Just tell yourself, "it's all part of the adventure." Remember, if Robert Ruark had gotten upset every time problems with Harry
Selby's flat bed truck delayed the safari, Horn of the Hunter would have read like an indictment of Selby. But Ruark rolled with the punches, poured some gin, and enjoyed the adventure.

When I was there two years ago, Riley's was back to being a bar, but I agree with Jason, the place across from the airport was where everyone hung out. I believe that the place was named Bon Arrive. I have also run into people at the Buck & Hunter.

The Buck & Hunter is next to Kalahari Kanvas. I have seen more PHs at Bon Arrive as it is a convenient place to wait for clients to arrive.

There is a coffee shop in Maun where a certain Harry Selby can be found on most days.

I have asked the outfitter if it would be possible to meet Mr. Selby. They said they would try to arrange it. I figure it will be one of those "once in a lifetime" opportunities and is very high on my bucket list.

My vote the Bon Arrivee, as of 2007.

Back in my OLD days (1996) the Duck Inn was the infamous spot. Anyone remember that one????

Duck Inn was the place in the old days (along with Rileys.) Soren Lindstrom and his missus had the Duck Inn. Best chicken pies in Botswana!

You two just beat me to the draw. The Duck Inn in the lat 20 year span. Rileys before then in the very earliest days. Its all good when you're in Africa and not Springfield, Mo.

To recap:

Rileys Hotel
Bull & Bush
Bon Arrivee
Buck & Hunter
Duck In

ADD /// The Power Station
----------------------------------------

For those whom like a (GOOD TALE) this is a short clip about the Bull & Bush ..

The locals know it as the 'Bullet & Ambush' – after its opening night, which was something of a gala event in Maun. Lots of the people in the safari industry turned up from all corners of the bush and, towards the end of the evening, someone was shot. Its nickname is a little unfair, as it's not by any means an unsafe place; quite the opposite, I'd recommend it.

Bon Arrivee used to have a local Motswana guy playing mostly American pop hits on his guitar on Fridays. He was pretty good. Klaas was still the owner last time I was there.

The Bull & Bush and Buck & Hunter are the same place. Name got changed. I met Willie Phillips there a few years ago. Anyone know him?
