Kudos to DSC for including information like that detailed below in Camp Trails. Helping to provide hunters with information that makes the case for the critical role that hunting plays in conservation. Need more efforts like this . . . arm hunters with information so that they can carry the message forward with friends, coworkers, associates, etc.

I saved that to my hard drive so that I can spread the word.

Great ammunition...

On the plains of hesitation lie the bleached bones of ten thousand, who on the dawn of victory lay down their weary heads resting, and there resting, died.

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with Kings - nor lose the common touch...
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son!

In Sports Afield Volume 240 Number 4(June issue) DSC has provided a breakdown o page 46 of how munch and a breakdown of funds generated from Leopard hunting in Mozimbique for 2010 in the Niassa vs revenue generated by paching. The source provided.

Now if I am reading it right out of the near 1 million dollars generated from 16 leopard safaris only 36,898 dollars was reinvested in conservation, anti-poaching, and local communities. Now that is 37K that would not have been provided, but I respectfully submit that out of near 1 million dollars generated more tha 37K needs to go back into conservation (which I think of as habit, local communities for stabilization of those communities, and anti poaching).

I have said on this forum that I believe organized pap hing of elephant appeared to have overwhelmed the hunting conservation model in parts of TN, MOZ, and ZIM. Assuming the that the above numbers for leopard are applicable and as an example there needs to be much more of that 1 million going to conservation.

I would suggest that the national government not take so much of the cake. If my math is right only 4 percent of the total funds generated made it back to the ground level. Of course, I could be reading the graph wrong. However, the 36,898 figure does not indicate that is per individual leopard. Therefore, a honest reading of the graph shows that 36,898 dollars for out of nearly 1 million dollars generated made it back to ground level. Gentleman that would be sand on the beach.

If the 36,898 dollar figure represents return to conservation per individual leopard, then that a meaningful return to conservation bc that would equate to a return to conservation of almost 62 percent. But the graph does not say that. If that is the case (I hope it is), then I wish they would clarify that point in some later issue.

Very good information. Concise and pertinent. I too would appreciate having the link to that article. Can't seem to get there on the DSC or DSC Foundation website. Smiler

Sounds like something that would make a good post on their social media outlets for people to easily share.
