Does anyone know the name of the company that makes the elephant hair bracelet with the silver knots. I have the tail hair from my Bots elephant. I have seen what appeared to be real elephant hair bracelets with a silver knot.
If you can give me a name and number
Thanks

Jeff, the only ones like you describe I've seen have been at a jewelry display at Afton Guest House. There was an itinerant jewelry sales guy there. The silver-knotted ones were kinda nice in a unique way, but it turns out they're giraffe hair. Buyer beware.

My ele's tail was turned into regular bracelets and a nice necklace/choker. I don't know where you could find anyone here who could do the bracelets with silver knots, but I'll bet somebody here'll know.

Oh, and why don't you just come to Dallas for the DSC show in January? There'll be several jewelry shops there who do African stuff.

Thanks guys, I am going to Dallas this year. One of my buddies is getting married during Reno.
I wanted to get a head start and not wait on the shows. My elephant had lots of hair but it was too short to make the all natural ones in camp.
I want something made from my elephant hair.

I'd just buy one. At least you have killed an elephant which qualifies you to wear one!!

But I myself prefer to pick an elephant with long tail hairs. Smiler

Take your hair to Dallas. Who knows, someone might do the gold knot thing.

I got a bunch of very long, and incredibly thick, hair. In case you find someone that can make them up, let me know.

Have you thought about an Elephant hair toe ring?

Wait, you already have one, try maybe a pinky ring ... oh crap, I remember now, you have that one covered too.

Anyone know how to make an Elephant hair tiara?

The gentleman at Afton was very open about the bracelets he had and notified us (those in the room) about the distiction between the Girraffe and the Elephan bracelets.
I found that even some of the vendors at the Victoria Falls Licensed sales area did not know the difference in the bracelets they were trying to sell.
There was someone selling the Elephant bracelets at the Dallas show when I was there and had to stop when asked by F and G. Maybe he did not have the proper paperwork.

I looked again in your book and I don't see a chapter on tail hairs and the techniques of field judgment of tail-hair length. Maybe that's why my tuskless only had about 25 hairs total and the longest one was only 4 inches.

Not to hijack the thread, but does anyone know who in Namibia can make an elephant hair bracelet. Taxidermist could not a few years ago and I've some (long) tail hairs sitting in Windhoek awaiting a bracelet maker?

Regards, Tim

Take them up to Okahandja and you'll probably find one of the crafts people who can make it for you.

Tim,

usually the skinners in camp or game scouts have made them for me... So, I would get in touch of PH and see if any on staff or friends of his can get er done...

Giraffe hair is soft and pliable like a horses tail, like black dacron fishing line... The ele hair is stiff and some is very thick...

Does anyone have directions to tie a braclet yourself. I have some nice, long elephant hair, and would like to make a braclet. Suggestions?

Peter Hepburn has bracelets made with either gold or silver knots. You can probably find him at Blackbeard Hepburn Safaris in Kasane Botswana. if you PM me, i will look up his email address for you.
