DLS,

Seriously! I'm patient. I wanted a rifle hunt, bugling elk, no horses required and a real chance at a big bull. This hunt is all of that. I'll write it up when I come back.

Wow! Hard to believe you've never been out after elk, but I know you'll love it. I'm headed out in two weeks to CO to take my son on his first elk hunt. Best of luck to you, Mark!!

They're bugling bigtime as of the beginning of the week down here. I woke up to a bugling bull with 9 cows this morning in the backyard!

Thanks for the good wishes. The initial rut fizzled with the rainy weather in NM so we are hoping for next week to be even better than we expected.

It should be against the law to hunt elk with out horses and/or mules! Wink

Lane,

I've never spent anytime around horse and what I have was not good. I do not see the attraction.

Brian,

I'm sure elk hunting is addictive but my budget won't let me do it ever year. Too many other expereinces to be had so little money.

Best of luck Mark! I've been elk hunting my entire adult life, I still find it a thrill every time I go.

Say what you will about them but horses complete the Elk hunting experience. And I've never been around them much either. I've hunted Elk every year since 1995 but used horses twice. By far, those two hunts were the best!
