When I was in Zim, we baited and called for hyena's at night. The PH had a cassette tape of hyenas calling to one another and later a feeding frenzy, at least that is what it sounded like to me.
Does anyone know where I could purchase a CD of something similar?
Thanks

We observed an interesting thing this past season hunting leopard with the dogs. Many times, when the dogs got a little excited and were a "yelping" quite a bit, Hyenas appeared out of nowhere and came right up close. At first we thought they were after the hounds but we eventually concluded that they probably reacted as they would have to wild dogs and assumed that the yelping dogs meant a fresh kill they could steal! That could very well be as there are wild dogs in the area.
Not to change the subject, but: Earlier this year we were out early looking for ele tracks, and while awaiting the return of the trackers we heard a hyena call several hundred yards away. Well, the ph, Gordon Duncan, began calling and after 1/4 to 1/2 hour of conversation between Gordon and the hyena the hyena decided to decamp, but not before he approached to within 50yds. That was really fun! Didn't see any new ele sign that day either.
