I am supposed to leave for Ethiopia January 18. Hunting with the Roussos. Doesn't seem like a good idea. Any thoughts?

What's not good? If covid, go and have fun. If it's civil war, stay home.

What does Jason say about the current security situation? On the ground intel is far better than any internet banter from armchair experts here. My thoughts are having something bad happen to a visiting hunter while on safari with your firm is much worse than postponing the hunt for a year... so I can't see Roussos having you come if there is that chance. Just my $.02.

And you can always request to roll the hunt if you're not comfortable.

I am due to hunt in Ethiopia in March with Jason Stone so that is what my plans are.

Vince,

Russel echoed exactly my thoughts. Talk to Jason.

Ethiopia has been hot for a while, but it's a big country. I have friends who have had great hunts there.

I am really looking forward to going, but things are looking pretty crazy. I reached out to Jason when things first heated up, but have not talked to him recently. It looks like the government has been taking back some ground from the rebels the last few days, so keeping fingers crossed.

Who are you hunting with eny? Like I mentioned above I am on safari with Jason Stone and it looks like Vince is with Jason Roussos... it would be interesting to see if there is a consensus among outfitters.

I am booked with Dave Radameyer for Feb. I've reached out to Dave and have not yet heard back. I'll be interested what other outfitters say.

Best of Hunting,

I hope he is right.

And I wish you the best of luck.

But, it today’s environment, two years is a very long time.

Anyone with any sense can see this virus fading away, but politicians are enjoying their new found powers.

Check the travel advice from your country, as that will affect insurance claims if you go and there was a negative travel advice. A few weeks ago most (all?) European countries urged their citizens to leave.

Go man and it all adds to the excitement. My advice would be to take more ammunition.

I traded messages with Jason Stone today and he said things at this time are still relatively unaffected in the area we are hunting Mountain Nyala. Right now, flights are still continuing into Addis Ababa with no interruptions. Of course, all is subject to change, both for the good or otherwise so we are going to touch base in early January. Just my latest update...

Things can go pear shaped in a hurry.

My 3/20 trip had a substantial delay getting in to the area, and hunting with an infantry squad as escort was…different.

It made the hunt much more challenging.

The southern mountain areas are quite a bit more stable than the other areas per my research. I’d be cautiously optimistic, and Ethiopia does not want incidents with foreign tourists, so the government takes security seriously.

Unless travel is disrupted, most unrest is localized. Think, traveling to Washington state when CHOP/CHAZ was going on.

Jason is as basically a local there. He was raised in that type of chaos.
He will tell you if there is a problem or danger.
I would go in a heartbeat....

Beats being in most of the USA or Europe right now.

I am booked with Jason Roussos for GFH, was told they postponed fall hunts and would let me know the situation later. That is all I know and I haven't been pestering.

I have not talked to him directly, only through agent.

Looks as if you are going to monitor this day by day. No way will Roussos put you in any danger.
