Are you as big a sucker as I am?

My youngest grand-daughter is fascinated by all my mounted trophies, she names every one correctly, and tells her school friends how and where I got them. Words like whacks 'em and tip 'em over roll off her tongue when we watch Tracks Across Africa together. She shoots a 22 reasonably well for a youngster, and can't wait to turn 10 and start on a real rifle.

We spent the entire day together today hand in hand, and went walkabout - put an entire Serengeti together at the house and she wants to get her own in Africa someday!

Man, I better find a second job! Smiler

My youngest granddaughter, who turned thirteen and into a gorgeous young lady without my permission while I was in Iraq, told me she wants to hunt birds with me this year. A dove hunt and quail hunting is what she prefers. I have a Remington 1100 comp skeet with screw in chokes that will be her blunderbus of choice. I must have done something right in this life to get such a wonderful hunting companion. Oh, she used to play retriever for me when she was younger.

Steve: It just gets better from here on.... I think we've hit our peak at five, as the youngest son/daughter-in-law decided on grand dogs instead, while still going through school and settling down. We'll see----

We do have the entire field covered with ball sports, hunting, flyfishing, rodeo, and academics! WOW, can't make it to everything we want now!

I have 4, 3 boys and a girl. The oldest boy is 9 and has gone moose hunting with me since he was 6. He loves being with me in the bush. His idea of a great weekend is to either boat or snowmachine into our cabin and just do woodsy things. Out of all of them he's the one that loves the animals and the sport of hunting the most.
My daughter and her husband moved back to Alaska (they were both raised here) shortly after she had her 3rd boy and I can't even express my gradetude. My wife and I are now a huge part of raising all these kids instead of someone that sees them a few times a year. All of these munchkins are the light of my life.

Blank,

Great post! And you have an impressive collection of Schleich animal figures! I've started a collection, too, but I can't find any kudu. Can I ask where you found them?

You need to add some trees now, such as acacia, baobab and mopane. They make all three.

My first grandkids are twin boys, two years old, with a third due in August. They know the names of most African animals, including the big five and most plains game. My daughter (their mother) can't believe they know what an nyala is, and that they can say it right!

Can't wait until they start going to school and do "show and tell." Their teacher might freak out when they bring in a warthog skull or some elephant dung!

Grandkids are so cool, I don't mind sleeping with a grandmother every night.

My granddaughter is 6 1/2. Two weeks ago we got to go shoot her 22 cricket for the first time. I bought it when she was 3. By the end of the session she was able to load ,cock, fire and eject all by her self. She does't have the get the head down thing yet, the rifle does't quite fit her. After the session she looked up and said " this is fun, but you know I am not a hunting type of girl". Dam tv has her head all screwed up! I will fix that later.

I got a 5.7x28 upper for my AR with bipod, and red dot, adj stock , and small light can ( I am waiting on the stamp). I will be able to set her up next to a table (made just for her) and let her go at it, she will be hooked for life

Congrats on the grandson! I only have the one myself - with 4 grandmas, 2 Mom's, and 4 sisters he feels a little overwhelmed at times. Nice that he loves all sports and hunting/fishing.

My grandson is 8 in August and is already accomplished with his Red Ryder and his compound bow. His Granma has a garden and it is his job to keep the squirrels at bay--game control officer of sorts. I am lucky he lives a bike ride distance from us. When he sleeps over, his room is my office/trophy room. This room is complete with murphy bed for the sleep overs. He wears a wart hog tusk on a leather neckless which his teachers approve of. Life is good.

I have six of them, My Daughter has 3 girls age 10,8,& 6 and a boy 2. The oldest girl is crazy for shooting and hunting and wants to go to Africa with me. My son has a Boy age 8 and a girl 5. The boy is also crazy for hunting & shooting and always wants to go in Papa's animal room. He likewise wants to go to Africa. The two oldest shoot my lil 22 rifle in the back yard regulary and are dead eye shots! We also hike in the backwoods. The other kids are also interesed but not quite to the extent as the oldest two. My daughters 2 year old boy is facinated by my trophy room and it looks like he'll be just like the oldest two. Both my son and son in law are avid hunters so that helps, but the coolest thing is my daughter and her 4 live right accross the street!

It is sooooo much fun having grandkids that love adventure! It makes all the gray worthwhile!

I have six grandsons, a grandaughter and a great grandson. My trophy room is the center of their universe. They have worn the hair off the nose of my Brown Bear rug. All hunters except a lone golfer and he can shoot a .5 group whenever he wants to. They all have a fine setup rifle when they want it, and the older grandsons are maintaining my waterfowl shotgunning tradition. This crew is my best excuse for anything new that comes down the pike. Good shooting.
