I was privileged to see and touch the actual World Record tusks in 1986. They were available only through special dispensation and appointment with the Natural History Museum. They were not on "display". The tusks I saw were indeed a match to the tusks depicted in the doorway photo. I suspect the tusks currently seen are NOT the same as the ones I viewed. They were awe inspiring in every aspect of their size.

I did the same thing in 1987 but under different circumstances. My wife and I were doing a layover on our way to Ethiopia. The place was full of noisy, young school kids. I asked a guard about those tusks and he seemed relieved to escort us about 3 floors down and show us the tusks. I too got to run my hand along their length. Damn'd cool Rich! On a side note, while the tusks are awesome, I'd like to have that entry way at my house - what a cool set of doors, huh! JW

Probably the most interesting thread posted on AR. It would be interesting to know if the cutlery firm in Sheffield UK still exists and whether they have archive images of their tusk? ROYAL KAFUE LTD Email - kafueroyal@gmail.com Tel/Whatsapp (00260) 975315144 Instagram - kafueroyal
