Jorge, was it raining while you were there? Is there some hope that the draught over with or, at a minimum lessening a bit?

Bwana: When I was there in June 05, apparently they had good rains. Makangani has a huge dam & reservoir so the animals thrive there as they are not affected much by the drought in the rest of Zim. Now I found Dande North be be very dry when I was there. jorge

Bwana:

You addressed Jorge... I think you meant to ask me about the rain...

It rained one night for three or four hours fairly heavily. Always, there were thunder bumpers in sight, but we never got rained on much at all. Standing water was in the potholes in the roads at all time. A few rivers were swollen, but not out of their banks.

Judge, thanks for seeing through my stupidity. I'm hoping the rains a coming. I hear Bulawayo only has 6 months of water left. That'll be a damn mess if they run out.

Bwana:

Stupidity (if you'll read between the line in my recount) was when I asked Brent why we weren't going to follow up the elephants down the donga into the jesse.

Semper Fi, from a really stupid novice.... Alive thanks to a smart P.H.... probably...

Ahem, ummm, I think, even with the wide latitude allowed for story telling.....if I were you, until I lost 40 to 50 lbs, I would leave ut the part about running/walking for 2 1/2 hours, it ruins a otherwise beliveable story.

Beachbum:

Thank you so much for your advice. I've never noticed that I was fat. Big Grin (Actually I could lose more weight than you suggest!)

... and... your quote in another thread may shed some light upon your ability to judge my experience and veracity "... I'll admit I have never been to Africa hunting but I hope to someday."

As to my report, I have saved the GPS routes that reflect the times, distances and speeds, of each foray into the bush on this safari. I always save the location of the vehicle so I can find it if everybody else dies or gets eaten by a tiger or something and I have to get back alone??? Roll Eyes

I live at 421 Kings Way, St. Simons Island, GA. Feel free to come by and check the saved data. Or maybe I just put in the coodinates and created the route (along with photo-shopping the pics and never have been to Africa?)

Again, thank you for helpful comments. I learn something about being a gentleman each day.

Ann:

Thanks for the kind words.

I've reserved a week for a p.a.c. hunt in Zimbabwe next year at the same time and I hope to go with Dale (1115) to Tanzania (Selous) in September this year for a week and try for another couple of buffalo.

Well it is time I think to change your moniker to Bwanna-G as you have surely passed from the hunter simply extolling the virtues of African lore to creating it. A wonderful accounting and another mountaintop to aspire to. Thank you for the thrills from another thrill-seeker awaiting the starter flag to drop.

Judge,

I do thank you for sharing these wonderful tales. Sure do enjoy them.

Am beginning to worry that you guys are making this elephant hunting thing so attractive that I'll just have to try it ... and I was thinkin' Cape Buf hunting was addictive enough.

It is so addictive that I'm going with Myles in March 2008 to Zimbabwe and with Steve Robinson to Botswana later in December.

Try it. You'll like it. Even Mikey does. Big Grin

Ernest: I just got back to this thread and read the unfortunate comments by "beachbum." He gives "urban outdoorsmen" a bad name. I also see he hails from Key West.
If he ever garners enough intestinal fortitude to back up his obnoxious comments in person, whatever you do, "check six" should you need to bend over. jorge
