I just heard from his sister that Paul Jelonek died of cancer. We grew up together in Rhodesia and, though I have not seen him for years, I believe he was a PH in Tanzania.

If it is a different Paul Jelonek, please excuse my error.
Cheers.

I met Paul about eight years ago, & had heard that his wife had cancer. Don't know about Paul. Last I heard he lived in Franklin, North Carolina with his wife & sister-in-law. He & his wife were wonderful people; he loaned me his sat phone when I hunted Australia a few years ago.

Paul died Saturday, August 16 in Franklin, NC. The Macon Funeral Home in Franklin is handling the arrangements. Paul was born in the United Kingdom, served in the Rhodesion Military, & was a farmer & PH who hunted in Tanzania. He was 57 years old.
I remember that he was quite a lion hunter, having guided a few clients that took possibly top ten world record lions. He & his wife, Dee, were a joy to know. He is survived by Dee & his children.

I hunted for lion with Paul in Tanz in 2008. He was a really capable PH and a pleasure to be with. I will always remember his stories about the civil war. He was a man of action. His wife Dee is a delightful person and always upbeat. I believe he had a son here in the States and a daughter that lived in England.

I believe Paul quit the business that year as he opened a convenience store/gas station/restaurant in Franklin (or nearby). He was the man with the plan that always produced. His two trackers were Rashidi and Mozingo. I too believe that his clients had taken approximately 10 record lions. Mine was a beauty.

His knowledge of dangerous game hunting is unparalleled. He will be missed.

Paul was my ph on my first safari in 1990. Very special event. Sad to hear about his passing.
