I have both buff and elephant hide and am going to have some boots made. Have worn elephant hide boots for years, but don't know much about buff hide--

What say ye gentlemen?

My Courtenay's are buff and they are fine boots.

Don't think I would chance Ele boots due to the CITES issues.

Cheers Chris

I bought a pair of buff leather Courtenays just before going to the hunt area in Zimbabwe last June. Had to use them because the soles of my Asolos separated three days into the hunt. I wore the new Courtenays the rest of the hunt with no issues, hardly any break in required.I did not consider ele leather boots due to some complications this material might cause at customs. BTW, it was Rick - "Pagosawingnut" who brought me to the store where he had purchased a pair for himself a couple of days previous. A bargain at $220 for the Hunter's model.

I wear two pair of Courteneys per year of buffalo and have been doing so since the mid-1990s. Nothing better--little or no break in and they last a measured 1000+ miles of walking (I walk my Black Lab 1800-2200 miles a year).
I second the above opinion on elephant. Fine if you wear them in this country but hell to pay of you wear them overseas and come back in the country with them. Have fun explaining them to the US Customs officer who questions you.
Cheers,
Cal

The buff Courtenays are bloody comfortable.

Speaking of elephant; I was clearing my rifles last year at Sydney airport and had to produce my shooter's license, I pulled out my wallet and had forgotten I'd bought a new one in Windhoek, and the customs officer laughed when he saw the "Genuine elephant" stamped on the inside of the wallet and said "don't show that to the Quarantine people" and wanted to know what I'd shot in Africa!

Jon, are those the ones you lent to Bob when he had issues with blisters while we were in Zim?

I take a pair of Courtenay elephant hide boots with me to hunt in Southern Africa. But, I penned a serial number on the tongue of each boot and put it on my 4457 with two rifles.

Not a problem.

Regards, Tim

Actually I am having riding (cowboy) boots made. I have worn elephant boots for years, was just curious about the buff since I have two backskins.

M.L. Leddys In San Angelo Tx makes my boots--and i am not sure they are what you would call reasonable---but they sure fit well.

Reasonable was meant reasonable, not thousands of dollars
I'm more interested in walking/hiking shoes
Thanks Sean
Anyone else know any other shoe makers?

DR Scott had some boots made from his cape buffalo hide a couple of years ago, a boot maker in North Texas did the work and I can't remember his name but he made a good looking pair of boots for Scott.
