I was in a discussion the other day with some guys who before that were considered reasonably decent blokes. However...certain issues have changed that. These issues might be set right and I might have to go back there with hat in hand but I thought I would throw this out and see what happens.

Who built the first 700 N.E.?

Who used/bought the gun and for what?

Who designed the bullet?

Any ideas?

In 1985 Bill Feldstein (Beverly Hills, CA) had 6 doubles in .600 Nitro express and wanted a 7th for his collection (55 double rifles). Holland & Holland refused to build another. They had already made their "official" last one. Bill then conceived the idea of building a bigger rifle...a .700 Nitro. H&H agreed to build one if he would design the cartridge and pay for the experimentation. In 1986 Jim Bell and Feldstein drew up plans for the original .700 H&H Nitro Express. He contracted the 1,000 grain bullets from Woodleigh.... 3,000 solids and 2,000 softs. In January of 1990 a beautifully engraved Holland & Holland in .700 H&H Nitro Express was completed. Bill took it to Ethiopia where he hunted with us and took the first elephant to fall to one. It was just an average elephant, nothing like the one he had collected with us a year previous which weighed 100 and 104 lbs. I believe that Bill still owns the proprietary rights to the cartridge which sells for $100 each.

Correct me if I am wrong. I think Bill got caught playing footsie with a fair maiden in his office and his wife helped him unload a number of those nice doubles during the divorce in order to help with her bereavement.
