KmuleinAk, the part # for the QRW bases is 49835. I have them on my Winchester. As for a stock I would consider the HS precision stocks. They have an alloy frame bed molded into the stock and offer some more weight for a heavy recoiling gun like the 416. You can get them in almost any color or camo pattern. I paid about $305 delivered for mine. I would have the recoil pad changed to a Pachmeyer decelerator from the Uncle mikes that is on it. With any stock you buy you will need to have the fore end cut out to accomadate the second recoil lug that is under the rear sight.
good luck.

I too have the exact same rifle that has now accounted for five cape buffalo without a hitch. The rear sight is junk and I use Tally mounts with low QD rings and I installed one of Jim Brockman's pop-up ghost rings. You may have to replace the front sight too but that's easy and Jim can tell you which one to use I'm sure. The scope is the vari-X III in 1.5X5X20mm heavy duplex but I just sent it back to have the standard duplex put in. I find the heavy to be too much so for longer shots at plains game. I recommend working your bolt (rifle empty) hundreds of times to similate what would amont to firing at the range. I also put a little remington clean bore compound on the lugs. They are a little abrasive and seem to have a polishing effect. Most rifles, especially mass produced ones do require a wear in period. Mine feeds flawlessly and the action is extremely smooth. I like my triggers at 3lbs and wouldn't recommend less on this caliber. The rile is very accurate with Barnes 400 gr "X" and solids. That bullet at 2370fps works exceptionally well. These bullets will shoot through a buffalo from most angles (the solids all passed through so you must be careful shooting in herds. Make sure you shoot your rifle with the magazine full and always try every round BEFORE you go hunting Mbogo. We almost had a disaster with another rifle that failed to feed once fired reloads from another rifle. Good luck, you have a great rifle there but work it to find the bugs if any.

I have the Leupold detachable rings as well. If you reload, you can load a lot of ammo cheap if you shoot cast bullets. I get mine from Custom Cast Bullets for about 50 bucks for 500. I load them to about 1900 fps, which is good for practice shooting out to 125 yards or so.

Andy375,

I have a set of Talbot QR for my 375, and without a word of a lie you can remove your scope with the Talbot's in two to three seconds tops... They are made in Michigan..
I love them and they hold a perfect Zero...Army snipers have some of them...
I also installed a pachmayr 990 decelerator and NECG customs sights rear express and front also...

Andy,
I also have a Model 70 in 375, before my trip this year I did experience a few problems. As I am fortunate to have a shooting range on my property, I practiced a lot. After about 60 rounds fired I found I needed to adjust Leupold VX-111 too many times. Sent rifle to my gunsmith, he found the bedding was very weak and soft. Had it glas bedded, changed factory trigger pull from 6 to a 3. He also needed to sand down a area of the front stock as it was not smooth and did not allow the barrel to be free floating. When it was returned to me it was like a differnt gun. Trigger pull was great, and after firing another 100 rounds it stayed true on target. In all shooting I only used the bullet I would be taking to my first Africa trip, Trophy Bonded Bear Claw in 300 grains. This is one heck of a accurate rifle.

I guess I worship the "Model 70 god" more than you guys. I bought mine in 92' when they first came out. THe only thing I don't like are the iron sights. I have a Leupold 1.75X6 on EAW QD mounts. With my handloads it's about a .5" shooter, trigger pull is right at 4lb. Great rifle and great "out of the box" accuracy. Sorry I couldn't resist jorge

AnotherAZWriter - I have been looking for some casts to shoot with this rifle, hope to find someone local that casts as freight to Alaska is a killer
I have purchased casts from both Cast Performance and Huntington's, pleased with the customer service at both places.
Is anyone aware who might cast .416" bullets in Alaska? Will try on the cast bullet forum also - KMule

Whoa!

Had a problem today when shooting my .416 that I have not noticed before. I was shooting rapidly with one up the spout and two in the mag. Twice I had a fresh round pop out of magazine (as I cycled the action) and fall to the ground.

Anyone ever have that problem?

KINO - thanks for the number, I called several local shops and (still) could not locate this part.... oh well.
Will keep looking as this is a sturdy set up IMHO. And thanks for the HS stock tip, and I do plan on replacing the recoil pad with another type with a bit more "cush" - KMule

AnotherAZWriter, I had the problem of ejecting live rounds with my M70 Safari Express in 416 Rem Mag until I replaced the magazine spring with a stiffer unit. End of problem.

Mine is equipped with a Leupold 1.75 X 6 with Leupold QD rings. Has been flawless to date after all sorts of rough treatment by airline folks and doing the military low crawl through the bush. The first three shots off the bench touch each other using 350 grain Swift A Frames. Average speed with my Chrony are 2605 FPS

I have a new safari express in 375 H&H and put a Kahles 1.5X6 on it. I am a Zeiss fan, but I really like this scope. I had the trigger worked on. Tuned up some loads with the 300 gr. Barnes X and solids and it shoots a sub 1" group. I trust it will perform well, and will find out next week.

Later, Keith

Take a look at Swarowskis circle dot scopes, 1,25-4x24 and 1,5-6x42, very quick to shoot with. I had both on my 375 Safari Express but now the later is on and the smaller is on my double.
