Zambia to resume hunting.
It was announced on radio last Monday that hunting will shortly resume in Zambia. It is predicted that the GMA's will be open for business next season.

What with the current over population of Lion and the continuing conflicts with communities it is predicted that the current ban on cat hunting will be lifted.

Really good news for hunters and our industry.

What the heck, I read the other day that lions are about to become extinct.......

BTW, great news and the best of luck to you, Mr. Baldry.

Our Wildlife Department is shooting them on a regular basis. One big male I saw was taken recently outside Royal Kafue.

They are considered vermin and to be shot on sight.

Hyena are also problematic but no one in the world gives a stuff about them.

This will present a great opportunity for hunters to take a few enormous Lions. I hunted 12 months after Zambia last re-opened following a closure. My Lion taken on that safari was (is still?) the largest Lion ever taken in Zambia and ranked 10 or 11 in SCI at the time - 2004.

Good news, for sure. Good luck to next years Zambia Lion hunters!

Yeah, good news, and on the cats ONLY if the USFWS doesn't cock it all up with a ban on lion imports.

Any ban on import will happen at the end of the first season, with a season's quota in the salt and not in the States, and next year's deposits in the bank.

Never underestimates the .gov's ability to cause maximum havoc.

Great news. Any word on the status of elephant? Zambia opened briefly before it closed altogether if I recall. And what is USFW's position on that?

Andrew, do you know anything about Richard and ProHunt? The website has been down for a while now since the closing. Do you know if he is starting back up?

Hi mate,

We are still waiting for the new Minister to appoint a Board. The issuance of concessions will be their decision.

Cheers

Good news. Hope it sticks. Noted a comment on one of your other posts. Assuming Zambia reopens, do they not allow baiting for leopards? If that is the case, do you hunt them? and if so, how?
