Botswana Buffalo Hunts?

Are there going to be any basic 10 day buffalo / plains game safaris in Botswana with the new opening?

I think it's great that they are reopening hunting but if it is only for the high dollar trophy elephant and lion then how much hunting can there be?

Anyone heard anything?

Most of Botswana buffalo are in the Okavango Delta and around Chobe National Park- no hunting areas.

I was amazed at the quality and quantity of buff in the CH8 (Chobe) area of Botswana. My understanding was there was a small quota for hunting and they were very expensive. None were on quota at the time. That was in 2010.

Gunscore,

We were in NG32 (Okavango Delta) in 2010, husband was hunting elephant. Huge buffalo all around but very expensive, around $26,000 back then.

Attached is the price list from 2011.

I will just stick to plains game. There are some great deals on huge private ranches in Botswana. It sounds like they only want the super rich as clients for dangerous game hunts anyway. I am certain the drinks by the fire in the evening are just as satisfying on a plains game hunt as they are for buffalo.

I think you statement is becoming more true every year for all African countries.

In 2016, I left a $200.00 tip for the camp staff and the manager looked at me like I was stealing candy from a baby. I was asked whether this was just for the cooking staff.

I replied that is was for anyone who personally provided service to me.

From what I understand all "Huntable" species will be available. I've inquired and there are no details on any hunt out there yet. There is lots of work to be done before hunters actually go in the field in Botswana. Yes! There is some very good buffalo hunting in parts of Botswana. When we hunted the Mababe Depression we saw some great buffalo.

That's good news Mark and thanks for the update. I would like to hunt buffalo someday in the delta.......just hoping it will not be too pricey.

Yeah! I'm not expecting pricing to be any lower than before the closure. I think it will be higher but the level of safari should be quite high as well. I expect some heavy hitters with well healed clients will be taking up some of the concessions.

Seems less expensive hunting might be available in Namibia's Caprivi strip, just across the Kwando River from Chobe. One outfitter is advertising packages at $18.5K and another about $4k more expensive.

I had kicked myself years ago for not hunting in the Delta while I could....
I'm very excited that we all may be able to hunt here once again...
One thing I also think will be great is hunting Red Lechwe there in their native habitat.
I'm happy they did 400 Elephants but it seems to me they should do many more as management animals in addition.
