Well, I am headed to Zim next week with my family to hunt buffalo. I learned a bunch on this website since my first trip. Here is a list of lessons learned to date -

1. Check out several outfitter/hunt brokers. Especially ones that have been doing this a long time. Find one to trust and go with him. He won't steer you wrong. Be sure to get things in writing to avoid confusion.

2. Use a .375 H&H with premium bullets for everything - especially buff. Practice a lot. Shoot the gun you shoot the best. Use CRF.

3. Use a travel agent with Africa experience. There are several good ones - Stacey Gibson with Falcon Travel, Kathi with World Travel, Elaine Porteous with Odysee Travel

4. Avoid the Airbus if possible.

5. Use Air2000 or the Afton House for layovers and clearing guns into RSA.

6. Let your agent clear your trophies back to the USA.

7. Take half the stuff you have laid out to take. Use soft side luggage.

8. Use a tuffpak if possible.

9. Take 3 cameras, plenty of batteries and film.

10. Don't measure anything, just enjoy the hunt and the chase.

11. Take small bills for tips - tip a lot.

12. Once you get on the plane, don't worry - it is too late.

I leave on Monday to commence the search for a cape buff with my sons.

Well Dogcat, there is certainly no sign of Adult attention deficit disorder, in your case! Wink You pay strict attention to things told to you!

Good luck on your hunt!

dogcat,

good luck, seems like you got it all covered! One more point if I may, bring a journal and take notes.

Hunting with your sons!

That sounds like the trip of a lifetime, even if you don't bag a trophy.

My first trip to Africa is still a few years off, but it will be with my old man when we go.

Have a great trip!

What I've learned:

1. rem. 700's are not good DGR rifles
2. Weatherby's are no good
3. Blazers are over-engineered
4. CRF is not needed
5. 458 win is not enough
6. 458 Lott is too much
7. northfork bullets are best
8. rhino bullets are best

when I go I will be hunting with sharpened stick since that has not been bashed! jump

Seriously, have a great trip.
