Are there huntable populations of Nubian Ibex in Sough Africa...or even in their native habitat where they can still be hunted?

I know that Greg at Hunters Hill has a herd bull and some good stock coming along but not huntable at this time.

Thanks for your input.

Cheers,

South Sudan is closed for hunting, but I do not know when, or if, Sudan, i.e. The Republic of Sudan, closed. Angelo Dacey used to outfit Nubian Ibex hunts in the Red Sea Hills close to Port Sudan there.

A quick googling listed "Sudan" among countries part of a seven-year EU-funded, UN FAO-run Sustainable Wildlife Management program, but I haven't yet been able to nail down which Sudan is part of the effort, nor how much hunting figures in that view of sustainable wildlife management.

Israel has a lot of Ibex in the dead sea area. Not sure if they are nubian. They also have a few leopard there too that prey on them. I saw a leopard there in 1997 while on a trip with a church group.

My Israeli friend has told me that hunting in Israel is very low-key, in fact the authorities try to keep the numbers of registered hunters to a limit and gradually reduce due to rather limited availability of bird species and their populations.

The Israelis also have other more important issues at hand than to go shooting birds and boars.

Thank you. Israel is not considered Africa. I need to take one in Africa.

You may have to find a local guide in Ethiopia who are willing to cut-a-corner into Sudan and pay of a few soldiers who patrol along the sudan/ethiopian borders. It would be an adventure but it´s the type of arrangements one cannot "arrange from back home"...you just have to fly down there, do your own scouting and make the set-up.

Jens,
WOW!! That sounds like an interesting possibility and an adventure. I am wondering if any of the established Outfitters there might slip into that territory for a peek a boo?? I will do some checking... I don't need to bring the trophies back>>> photos and measurements will do...although that is almost a crime!!

shame Don't even think about it. Too much trouble possible here as you are breaking both Sudanese and Ethiopian laws starting with illegal exit and entry and "smuggling" firearms...

Tim,
Wise thoughts. Not that important, and I don't want to end up in an African Jail...or have a record!!
