The last I've heard it was 375 Life is how you spend the time between hunting trips. Through Responsible Sustainable hunting we serve Conservation. Outfitter permit no. Limpopo ZA/LP/73984 PH permit no. Limpopo ZA/LP/81197 Jaco Human SA Hunting Experience jacohu@mweb.co.za www.sahuntexp.com

Definitely 375. Never been in the okavango but in the Chobe you can expect shots up to 100 yards. Most of the time it will be less then 50. It really depends on foliage condition, time of year etc.

i hunted the chobie area like bull dog said up to 100 but 99% of your shots will be taken under the 50-60 yard mark i shot my elephant at all of 17 yards.

This question about the 9.3x62 pops up quite a bit. Is it actually legal in any country for hunting buff??

Would you really want to try for buff with less then a 375?

I'm just so use to using this Rifle and have already taken some Buff with it with good results using 300grnSwift A Frames and Woodliegh solids. Anyway will probably use my 470NE and use my friends light rifle for PG on this 2X1 hunt. In this way we can carry three rifles between us{300, 375H&H, 470NE}. Adam C.

The 9.3x62 is legal in Zimbabwe but I don't know about Botswana. Doktari and Ganyana both speak very highly of it for buff. In fact Doktari thinks it kills buff better then the 375 H&H. 465H&H

It is legal in most of South Africa except one province I believe. I don't know which one, just passing on what I have previously read.

I see, i was always under the impression that the .375 was generally the legal minimum for DG.

I don't know the countries where the 9.3 is legal for buffalo,on the list, but I do know that the 9.3X62, and 74 have, most likely, killed far more Buffalo, in Africa, than the 375 H&H. This is simply because every ranch, and farm in Africa has one or both of the 9.3 rifles, and many game departments issue them for culling. I do know, as well, that any 9.3 is "ILLEGAL" for Buffalo in Tanzania, and even for lion, with the 375 being minimum for the last four yrs. Still the 9.3s are being used on Buffalo in every country where Buffalo, and Lion are hunted, legal or not! ....Mac >>>===(x)===> MacD37, ...and DUGABOY1 DRSS Charter member "If I die today, I've had a life well spent, for I've been to see the Elephant, and smelled the smoke of Africa!"~ME 1982 Hands of Old Elmer Keith

ALF one of us Posted 25 February 2004 15:02 Lets see: RSA = Legal Botswana = legal (but get this max caliber is the 577) Namibia = Legal Zimbabwe= Legal Zambia = legal (308 or 223 illegal as no mil calibers are allowed) Tanzania = legal ( it was always 375 but that appears to have been dropped) The EAPHA still advises 375 though Mozambigue = legal CAR = minimum is 338 (8mm) Camaroon = legal Benin = legal The only places who narrowly define caliber and energy are Zimbabwe and Namibia So lets give our little friend the 9.3 another chance. I have and it works very well indeed. Cheers "The appearance of the law most be upheld--especially while it's being broken." Boss Tweed

It's not allowed for Buffalo in KZN, Botswana or Tanzania. Having said that, I've never known a calibre be checked by a game scout or Parks Department anywhere.......

Botswana's minimum calibre is .375 but plenty of clients use the 9,3 X 62 resp. 9,3 X 74 R there - no one cares. It is ridiculous that something like the 9.5 Manlicher is allowed, as it is 375, but a very poor performer on big game, and cartridges in the 9.3 class forbidden. In South Africa, the country is divided into provinces which have their own laws. The only province which has a .375 minimum is KwaZulu Natal. It is perfectly legal to use a 9.3 in Mpumalanga and in Limpopo Provinces. HUNTING ONE HOUR FROM CAPE TOWN http://www.kapstadt.de/lemberg

Sunshine Please refer to my previous post. Mpumalanga Ord 17, 1988, Chapter 2 Sec 11 (a) Specifies a bullet not smaller than 0.375 inch. While I dont have a Limpopo Ordinance with me, a warden from Limpopo parks confirmed that the minimum is .375 Brad Brad Rolston African Hunting P.O. The reference from the Ordinance speaks for itself. 2. There are numerous numbers of buffalo in the Cape province, both in game reserves ( Double Drift, Addo etc ) as well as in the hands of private individuals. The only accurate part of the quote, is the part referring to KZN. Brad Brad Rolston African Hunting P.O.
