Hi everyone

I am currently in the process of relaunching/rebranding my company Mike Taylor Sporting with a new logo and brand new website. I hope to have both finished by the end of this month.

I offer hunting, fishing and photographic safaris in Zimbabwe, Zambia, Tanzania and Mozambique to the UK and European market.

I am excited to say that I am now the UK based agent for some well known and respected outfitters across Southern Africa:

Royal Kafue Ltd in Zambia
Charlton McCallum Safaris in Zimbabwe
Roger Whittall Safaris in Zimbabwe
Mokore Safaris in Zimbabwe and Mozambique
Kilombero North Safaris in Tanzania
Michel Mantheakis Safaris in Tanzania
Adam Clements Safari Trackers in Tanzania

I have also teamed up with Ray Buchanan of Rustic Hunter Productions who can film your safari depending on the outfitter as some have their own cameramen.

Please contact me if you have any questions or would like to talk about booking a bespoke safari with me.

There isn't room in this town for two Mike Taylors. One of you has to go!

Just kidding, of course. Spike.t I thought it was you at first, too!

I want to add a short bio of who I am and how I got to where I am now.

I was introduced to hunting in Africa by my father at the ago of 14 and we went on two safaris together between 1998 and 2000 , one on Humani (Save Valley Conservancy) and the other Chewore Shouth (Zambezi Valley).

In 2005 I was given the opportunity to go out to Zimbabwe and work for Buzz and Myles (CM Safaris) and Roger Whittall Safaris as a cameraman and general helper around the camps. I ended up filming hunts for Buzz Charlton, Myles McCallum, Guy Whittall, Peter Wood and Thierry Labat. I filmed in a few different areas in Zimbabwe and Mozambique namely Humani, Chewore South, Dande and Nyakasanga. I also filmed a couple of hunt just over the boarder in Mozambique on the banks of the Zambezi where the river meets Lake Cahora Bassa.

It was at this time while in Chewore South that Roger Whittall suggested that I start a booking agency business when I returned to the UK and that is what I did.

You need to be intimate with the areas you are selling.

For instance Mark Young here has been to Royal Kafue.

It's a mystery to me as to what happened to the hunting gene in the UK. That country went from being the gunmaking center of the world to being the anti-hunting capital of the world. At one time, every other hunter you came across in Africa (and almost every one in India) was British. You very seldom encounter British clients in Africa now.

Perhaps it's just urbanization. Or the end of the colonial era, limiting access to foreign lands by young British men. My theory is that the gene pool was modified by two world wars, coupled with emigration to the colonies by the more adventurous.

One of the things that keeps Brits in Africa off the radar is the refrain "We don't hunt Zimbabwe". Additionally they are not supposed to bring guns to Zimbabwe. Yeah! I know this does not apply to all UK hunters and there are ways around the Zim gun ban but I get this from them often. I'll have an inquiry for a wild buffalo hunt but at moderate price from a Brit. Well! Zim is where you can do that so mostly it's an no sale.

Culturally, we are more inclined to be Hunters than clients. 2010 to 2018 I stalked, shot or fished about 100 days per year; no guide involved. Most of us don't get anything out of someone else doing the hunting while we just turn up and pull the trigger. Nothing wrong with it, but it's just not our thing.

My theory on the lack of British hunters is the influence of British comedians, many of whom love to appear in drag. Eddy Izard, Dame Edna, Monty Python, Benny Hill, etc. British boys grow up seeing these guys prancing around in drag, speaking with lisps and acting like pansies. In their young minds, they think ......”Wow it must be OK to act like a wussy”.
