Last night I was going to watch Safari Hunter's Journal on Versus. I flipped over there a few minutes before the scheduled start and was amazed to see an ad from the Humane Society of the United States!

I am on Guam and this was definitely not an ad from the local cable network; this was part of Versus advertising package.

You probably caught the section of the show where Steve was pointing out the hipocracy and actual agenda of HSUS. He does that a lot. I wish he would find a way to do that on the regular networks. He's pretty much preaching to the choir as is.

No, it was an actual commercial. I nearly dropped to the floor I was laughing so hard. Wayne Pacelle making his pitch with photos of all those abused puppies and kitties! Amazing how much they rake in and how little goes to actually help abused animals. Wayne however takes a grand salary! Think some non-profit watchdog audited them and cited them as one of the worst in "$$ gathered to actual work in the field accomplished". Most goes to "administrative costs"! And we all know what that means!

Rhyme of the Sheep Hunter
May fordings never be too deep, And alders not too thick; May rock slides never be too steep And ridges not too slick.
And may your bullets shoot as swell As Fred Bear's arrow's flew; And may your nose work just as well As Jack O'Connor's too.
May winds be never at your tail When stalking down the steep; May bears be never on your trail When packing out your sheep.
May the hundred pounds upon you Not make you break or trip; And may the plane in which you flew Await you at the strip.

I wonder why the NRA does not advertise on NPR. I believe by law they must accept all paid advertising (on both sides of the fence). Preaching to the converted does little if anything but justify the salaries of marketing folks.

No, it was an actual ad that aired in its entirety before his show started. I watched the whole thing because I thought it was going to be used as an example of what the anti-hunters are trying to do, but it was not. I am not faulting Steve in this; he is not the one who sold them the advertising space.

There is a good chance that the HSUS commercial was not a paid ad, but run by some misinformed jerk at the network as a "public service announcement."

From experience, it is amazing just how many folks, including hunters, do not have a clue as to how insideous the HSUS in its operations.

Many folks firmly believe those folks are out there working under the best intentions for pets.

I submitted the following question to them and will post their response if I receive one.

A couple of nights ago I was going to watch Safari Hunter's Journal on your network. A few minutes before the scheduled start I was amazed to see an ad from the Humane Society of the United States! Does Versus support them and their agenda? Sincerely,

One of those misguided and misinformed folks is Rush Limbaugh, and that's why I have stopped listening to him.

Folks my brother in law and myself sent emails to these guys about a year ago. We actually started with the NRA and the show that the comercial aired on. The response we got from them was basically they had no control over what the network did. The network responded that they only sell air time and were not involved. Basically everyone passed the buck. Good luck getting any kind of meaningfull response. You will get some type of answer but I will bet it mirrors ours. You would be surprised at all of the companies that donate to the HSUS as well including a major auto(light truck) maker and pet food /livestock feed maker. Most of these people have no idea what HSUS is really about. It is good however that anyone who sees these things email, write or call. It is going to take mass numbers of complaints to get them to make a change. They need to see the cost is higher than any benefit they derive.
