Suspected poachers nabbed Sunday News Reporter POLICE in Masvingo have arrested four people suspected to be on a poaching expedition and recovered a 303 rifle fitted with a silencer and a telescopic lance and 42 live rounds of ammunition. Two others were arrested after they were found in possession of a fresh rhino horn which they failed to account for. Confirming the arrest to Sunday News last Thursday, police spokesman for Masvingo Province Inspector Tinaye Matake said police in Mwenezi arrested Freedom Chiradza (35), Almon Ndlovu (32), Humbulani Ndou (32) and Rueben Sibanda (43) in the Mbuyana Conservancy in Mwenezi. The four were driving a Nissan hard body when police in the conservancy who had received a tip off stopped them. They were searched and police recovered a 303 rifle that was fitted with a silencer and a telescopic lance with 42 live rounds of ammunition that the four failed to account for leading to their arrest. Further investigations by the police led to the arrest of Loveness Moyo (35) and Rogers Mukwena (40) who were found in possession of a rhino horn that they also failed to account for. The six, he said, were still in police custody assisting the police with investigations and will be taken to court soon. “Police in Mwenezi arrested six people suspected to be poachers in the Mbuyana Conservancy in Mwenezi last week. The four will however face charges of possessing dangerous weapons while the other two who were found in possession of a rhino horn will face charges of poaching. They are still in police custody assisting the police with investigations and will be taken to court soon,” said Inspector Matake. He lamented the increase in poaching activities in the conservancies dotted in the province saying police would do everything in their power to ensure that the cases of poaching are kept in check.
