Serval import?

I know that the serval is an Appendix II animal, and that an export permit is required.

I have the opportunity to take a serval in SA next month. Is there anything I need to do to import the hide to the US?

#1 - have extremely good luck in even seaing one. I've only seen one and that was for a split second in the grass in all my trips. Good luck - may diana be with you

Appendix II is restricted export; The US has not banned Serval, so the export would require what restrictions the exporting country has. Ask your PH/outfitter, but typically you have to pay an extra CITIES fee for export, and (more on their side) they need to have export quota available, at least that is my understanding of the system after a few Appendix II imports.

Butch is right about seeing them. The only one I saw was for maybe 2 seconds from the truck, and by the time we got off the Bakkie, he was long gone. That's the only time in almost 70 days over there I have seen one. They are a handsome animal. Good luck!
