Well boys.....it is time somebody posts up the information for inexpensive hotel/motel rooms for the DSC Convention in January....places that are in close proximity to the center, so you do not need a vehicle. I like having my truck, but I'm sick of driving 13-14 hours to get there, so this year I am flying.

Let her rip guys..................

The Magnolia is nice & not that expensive.
Just a few blocks from the conv. & shuttle bus service is available.
You can go on the DSC website & check on rooms & rates.
I believe that all of the hotels they list will have shuttle bus service.
We're staying in the Omni this year.

We are staying in the Omni as well. If you go through the DSC website, they give a really good rate.

Brennan,

It's really hard to beat the convenience of the OMNI. You don't even have to go outdoors to go to the convention center as the OMNI and the convention center are connected. Finish your breakfast and your in the hall in five minutes.

AR is better than canned pop!! It is great to belong to a fraternity of guys that when you ask a question......you get an answer! You may not like it.....but for the most part, you get input and information.

Knowledge vs. wisdom is another matter completely...........

Well, I like the sound of the Omni, but shish! @ $300 bucks a night, I don't think so. Guess we've got to keep diggin'.

Brennan, when I've looked in the past, the least expensive rooms I could find (that don't rent by the hour)were $89.00. The DSC website list the Holiday Inn at $99.00. That is probably about as good as you are going to find.

For a number of years I have stayed at Aloft. But the convenience of the Omni is too much to pass up. If the weather is bad, and the weather in Dallas in January can be bad, the indoor walk way from the hotel to the convention is the way to go.

if you go to the DSC website and click on "make your reservations", only 4 hotels come up- none of which is the Omni.

Just contacted the Comfort Inn, our old reliable. Got a double room for $79; a single king is $69. No block of rooms has been reserved at the Comfort Inn at this time. I think if you want a room there, you'd better get your reservation in now.

Daughter and I are staying at the Omni. I've heard it's a recently completed hotel, and right next to the Convention center. Looking forward to attending DSC again.

If you want to gamble having a room, try the Hotel Tonight APP. Really good rates, you just have to wait until Noon or so for them to be posted for that night. I've seen some hotels that let you book up to five nights!

Well , I have seen temps in the low teens, ice two or three inches on all roadways and terrain with winds howling above twenty knots. Not really that nice, especially if you have to drive. It can be a lot tougher than here at my place, at 8,500 feet in the mountains of New Mexico for sure. You also have to deal with the idiot drivers who still think it's 65 degrees and balmy. Other than that no problem. Roll Eyes

I fly in from Corpus Christi every year. The last three years running I either had to catch a ride back with Russell M or wait all day to fly out becuase of snow and ice or fog. Hoping I will luck out in 2013.....

Bill, 2 years ago the wind was gusting to 30mph and blowing a constant 15 to 20 not bad Except the temp was 10degrees. Freeze the balls on a brass monkey.

Last year it snowed on Sunday. I-45 was a mess all the way to Corsicana for our drive back to Houston. We saw lots of cars in ditches and a couple jackknifed big rigs.
