All, my eldest boy has to give an oral presentation on a subject at school. He was going to do something boring like daylight savings etc, but I sugested that he do it on conservation in hunting. Can anyone point me in the right direction to get some info for him? ------------------------------ A mate of mine has just told me he's shagging his girlfriend and her twin. I said "How can you tell them apart?" He said "Her brother's got a moustache!"

Take a look at Ducks Unlimited (Wetlands Care Australia); this is a great, successful conservation organization.

Bad idea. Good intentions, but bad idea. Conservation is certainly admirable, but will get thrown under the bus if the teacher leans toward the, hunting is always bad, bent. Ask me how I know? Best to stay away from such a controversial subject as hunting.

I would try the PHASA website www.phasa.co.za as it may well have a lot dedicated to the topic.

Thanks for the heads up, I'll start watching The Drudge Report for the article about how he was expelled from school, also start preparing my post for the political forum. Oh, wait a minute, I just saw you live in Australia, not the US or Europe, he may be ok.

True though. Exactly why we already have a spot on the list at a private school around here for when we start a family, where values like god and country are still taught and even a little common sense too. And this was decided by my wife who is a Junior College math teacher and sees the results of the California public school system all the time.

Bakes, Dave (onefunzr2) has a point. There are a lot of different factors to consider. How old are your son and his classmates? Are they old enough to grasp and understand the subject? Do you live in an urban area, or a rural area, where hunting is a part of everyday life? These things matter. I think it's important to teach your own kids about hunting when they're young inside your own home. But in the classroom, there are a lot of other things to consider, including the teacher possibly being an anti-hunter. You don't want to make your son a pariah among his classmates. You also don't want to make it look like your son is being used as a mouthpiece for the parents' views. So you probably need to tread softly in this area. It's too bad there are parts of the world where hunting, which man has ALWAYS done, is now considered "controversial". Hopefully, your area of Australia is not that way. Glen

Bakes Tell him to choose his topic and stick with it. You don't get anywhere in life by dodging bullets. Tell him if he likes hunting then he should stand proud and tell the rest of them about its place in conservation. If he decides to go ahead then tell him to contact Cleve Cheney, he has just written a 3 part series on hunting as a conservation tool for Africa's Bowhunter Magazine. He will be happy to help out and send the type of material that all of us hunters should have in our bag of defenses against the green plague that is threatening our favorite form of life improvement. PM if you want his e-mail
