Any of you fellow Canadians ever have to pay GST on your trophies when importing them into Canada. My buddy just got his stuff from Zim and there is a $500 gst charge with the bill. That brings the total for shipping to almost $4000 It seems everyone has their hands in our pockets. My stuff is still in Zim screw up with CITIES permits expiring first here in Canada and now in Zim. Our trophies were to be shipped together. His have arrived here and mine, who knows? Now with 2 separate shipments if they are both the same price that's almost $8000 If that happens then there won't be any taxidermy work for me.That's cutting into my budget just to deep. Prairie Wolf I have received two shipments from Africa in the past three months. The first from Zim. was just horns and capes X 7.I was charged 800.00 and the way they came up with ammount was a copy of the trophy fees paid were in the paper work in the crate. The second from RSA was 12 mounted trophys and they charged me GST on the value of the Taxidermy work.I had sent a request that no other info. be placed in the crate. My Taxidermist who picked the stuff from Zim. up for me tried to tell the Customs Guys that the trophys had no value. The Officer seemed to have a good grasp of how hunts over there are priced and told him that if he wanted to he could charge GST for both trophy fees and taxidermy work done there.I have been thinking of posting on this subject. As no one when selling you a hunt tells you about this. Now paying the tax on the finished trophys is not to bad as you will have to pay it here when you pick-up your Mounts. But to pay tax on a hunt that did not take place in Can. that hurts. | |||
