This is a 12 guage slug from Dixie Slugs. http://www.dixieslugs.com/products.html I was just curious what you guy think would be the maximum practical size animal this load could be used on. It is obviously a very close range round. Thanks. Sand Creek November 29 1864

Nobody wants to take a crack at this huh? Well, I would venture a guess it would do fine on anything on the North American continent. Even the big bears shouldn't be able to stand up to that much lead, even if it isn't going that fast. Sand Creek November 29 1864

he he frank shotgun is tabu even if british settler killed loads of big and large game with their paradoc bor shotgun and even german and french settler did the same with thier shotgun loaded with brenneke slugs. the brenneke perior to 1930s made a special brenneke slug called stahlcap which was loded with 36 gram slugs and somewhat higher velocity to achieve 4500 jouls of energy for big 5 hunting. nowdays buffalus don't die of poor 375 H&H and they need at least 458 lott!!! and if you go for jumbo you'd better with 588 T:REX Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy; its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery.

Ha ha. Yeah, I'm starting to think maybe the idea is that slugs don't operate right on the African continent. I was hoping that 730 grains would be capable of putting down an antelope, but I guess maybe not.

I know SGs are out of favour as leopard medicine these days but I wonder if the Tri-balls would have any application. If the patterns were too tight, maybe you could hit each one with a hammer before loading?

I am sure one of these slugs if propperly placed would kill anything on the planet that walks and bleeds. HOWEVER with the availability of more powerfull rifles that have more range and accuracy one has to ask WHY would you do it. Most of the deer I have shot could of been killed with a 22 hornett, but I have not ever tried that nor will I ever. Lets think MARGIN FOR ERROR. The more you turn your hunt into a stunt, (bows, muzzleloaders, spears and otherwize less than modern weapons) the less margin for error you have. In closing just because you CAN do something dosen't mean you SHOULD... just like sticking your weener into a pickel slicer!! NRA Life DRSS Searcy 470 NE The poster formerly known as Uglystick

In Michigan where I was raised, we had alot of pickle plants. I did stick my wiener in a pickle slicer on a dare. She and I both got fired. .395 Family Member DRSS, po' boy member Political correctness is nothing but liberal enforced censorship

Yeah, obviously not very easy to get ahold of these people. And the only way to order is with a money order. Not really surprising since these slugs are the only thing they sell. I doubt it is a big factory with an army of employees. Sand Creek November 29 1864

I'm going to order a couple boxes, as well as a few of the tri-ball. I want one to take apart just to look at the slug. Then if the recoil can be made manageable I will use one on white tail this year. I hope it's enough. Sand Creek November 29 1864

It will be great on whitetail. Here in Ohio slugs are mandatory for gun season-- no rifles. I;ve not tried this brand, but in general you have a problem with penetration with lead slugs. They are usually soft and expand when they hit bone and fragment. These may be 'harder' like the remington buckhammers. But my guess is that you will find them wanting on game larger than deer. My favorite slugs were the 1 3/8 oz remington copper solids, now discontinued. They do offer a 1 oz copper solid now, but the heavier ones penetrated better.

This should be an indicator. 500grain breneke found on the offside of grizzly hide. 472 grains left. MV was 1500fps. http://redoubtreporter.wordpre...em-of-wounded-bears/ Sand Creek November 29 1864
