Does anyone know how much ammo you are allowed to take to Namibia? I'll be flying Delta to Atlanta, then SAA to Jo'berg to W'hoek. Thanks!

Unless you plan on starting a revolution I would think 100 rounds of anything (or less) would be more than plenty. That is all I have ever taken in total even when taking two guns and I always have plenty ammo left. In Namibia in 2000 I went 7 animals for 7 shots. Fired two into the target the day I got there so 9 rounds total. About the same type story for RSA in 2002 when son and I were both shooting the same two guns. We almost went one critter for one round. In Tanzania I went one for one...had lots of ammo left. I guess it depends on how many calibers you take and how well you shoot. Have fun...Namibia is a great place!

Thanks Harry, I plan on taking 60 rounds for a 16 day hunt, hopefully taking 10 animals or so, plus maybe some baboons and jackels. Does the amount go according to weight, or total number of rounds taken? Just want to be sure of the law. Wolf

As I recall, 60 rounds per firearm is the legal limit. Of course you're bound by the airline's restriction, which is 5 kg (~11 pounds).

Better safe than sorry so take the extra rounds in case you need to do any heavy resighting -you never know when youll take a tumble (I know cause Im clumsy ).

I agree, don't go with the thought of the "one shot one kill" idea. It can happen that way but what happens if your gun gets really knocked out of whack. I always take 40 to 50 rounds for the .416 and 100 rounds for the .270, the weight is right at 11 pounds, better safe then sorry. not easy to buy ammo in the corner store in the middle of Africa!!
