bwana cecilAfrican Hunter article by Cal Pappas
Read Cal's article titled "Will The Real Mark Sullivan Please Stand Up?"
Very well written & quite informative.
Seems those that actually know Mark like him & those that have hunted with him enjoyed themselves.
I have never hunted with nor met him, but would surely enjoy either if the chance arose.
He's a showman, an excellent marketer & gentleman.
Good article Cal & look forward to Part 2.

EddieWalkerI met him a few times at SCI in Reno and Vegas. He seemed nice enough when talking to him about his buffalo hunts. Lots of people where talking about his videos and how often he and his clients shoot them while being charged by buffalo. I was told by quite a few other outfitters that he was doing something to make that happen, and some even said he was intentionally wounding them to get those charges on video. Not being there, I don't know what the truth is, but he sure does have a lot of video of charging buffalo, where hardly nobody else has it happen to them and their clients. Why so many charging buffalo?

Well, Sullivan has stated himself that his clients are terrible shots!
I sure would not fit in his camp, as he won't have anything to do once I pull the trigger

larryshoresAs some may recall, Mark participated in a hunt that was raffled off for the benefit of Stu Taylor. I donated the hunt. Rick Taylor won the hunt.
Mark was indeed a very nice guy. He was a true gentleman and was hysterically funny. We had a great time with him.
I am probably going with him before too many years go by. If for no other reason, to see what it is really like.

Eddie:
What you write is exactly why I penned the article. The buffalo charges have been greatly blown out of proportion. When I tabulated Mark's videos I posted them on AR and I mentioned what I saw on the videos in part 2 of my article. The facts are in 16 years and 10 videos Mark recorded 8 buffalo charges. That's all--8! Yet, when I ask folks about his charges they will state from 50 upward to "hundreds."
To all of you who commented, thanks for your thoughts. The article is factual and void of emotion. In part two Mark will address many accusations about him, I reprinted his open letter that was here on AR, and some details of his videos.
Cheers, all.

Mark discussed charges with us when he participated in the benefit hunt. While I do not recall his exact percentages, he reckoned that something like 1% of the buff would charge under any circumstance.

Heym 450/400Anyone know what areas Mark leases in Tanzania?
14 July 2015, 12:22
editor-antHi everyone. Sorry for the delay in replying I have been out of the office.
Obviously, the article is out in the print magazine, though in checking on our digital partners following the comments here, we have discovered a glitch and it is not accessible. We are working on this and will hopefully have the digital magazine working during the the course of the day.
Though I had not planned to post it on our Cloud web version of the magazine just yet, I have my team working to get it up. All things being equal, this should be later today as well.
Thanks to Cal for another well-penned, objective piece.

Does he lease areas or does he channel his clients through a specific outfitter and conducts the hunt as PH?
14 July 2015, 14:50
larryshoresMy understanding is that he takes client through Game Frontiers areas.

editor-antIt's been a bit of a challenge to re-build today's web up-date, but we have substituted our planned article with Cal's first part on Mark Sullivan for your reading pleasure.
Visit our site -
www.africanhunteronline.com or simply click the cover image below. Both should get you to the Cloud Magazine. From that page, should you wish to browse the main site, click on the WEBSITE tab in the black band at the top of the page.

FrostbitExcellent read. I really look forward to the second half.
Interesting coincidence in that the video link at the end of the on line article shows a dead Buff with two doubles leaning against it. I came to notice that the double on the right is Joyce's Charles Osburn actioned Lawn & Alder 450/400.
Cheers

That surprises me. I never bought any of his videos, just saw it playing on the TV he had at his booth at SCI. It was one charge after another. I guess it could have been just 8 different bulls, I don't remember how long I watched it, or how many times I walked past his booth.

That is because I write for an audience made up by people like you--the uneducated and uninformed masses who collect Blasers, SKSs, and Baikal bespoke doubles for under 500$.
Biebs--you make me laugh with all of your posts. You should make a good living as a stand up comic. That is when your career in gay porn comes to an end due to advanced age.

Biebs has often alluded he looks like Robert Redford - he will be around for a while.
How many other rifles devotes are there like Biebs? He told me to operate the blaser de-cocker more efficient - he chopped of this thumb to create greater mass in a stub

lavacaSorry to have missed the article, but I'm afraid my African Hunter subscription expired and I've been unable to renew it.
Not to hijack a post, but Ant should be aware that some US credit card companies instantly grab any offshore, especially Africa, charges, especially if they use another offshore company to process the transaction. So my credit card companies have refused to honor my attempts to subscribe to both African Hunter and African Fisherman.
Ant, any way to do it the old fashioned way?

There is no surprise here at all.
Everything Mark puts out has to do with DEATH this, and DEATH that.
All to show how brave he is!
Silly videos on Mark Sullivan's website! And with all due respect to Cal - who I have the utmost respect for - he looks at Mark Sullivan as his hero.
And went so far as to actually posts here that none of us here are good enough to fit in Mark's shoes

Great, as I certainly would never lower myself to such levels!

editor-antLavaca, sorry you missed the article in the print magazine, but due to the interest, we have it up as free content on our website.
As to the subscribing problem, I am assuming the last time you tried was three or more years back. Since those days, we have invested a tremendous amount of resources to provide state-of-the-art, efficient and secure online systems. The payment platform we use (2Checkout.com) is one of the world leaders in their field and is based in the USA - no offshore charges or third party companies which might alarm your bankers. We have also been through a rigorous certification program with Trustwave International and have a “Secure License” meeting the very highest standards of online security on our site. Both these certifications are ongoing and subjected to random and frequent testing of our systems and service. These companies are represented on our site with links to verify our operating licenses.
As such, we are now able to accept absolutely any credit card including platforms like PayPal or American Express and even internal USA debit cards. However, I would be more than happy to have my team telephone you at a time convenient to you, and take your details by telephone - still considered one of the securest methods. We do still accept cheques through the mail, but I strongly discourage this as between your banks and ours, we lose 50% of the value and the process can take up to three months to clear.
Please feel free to PM me a phone number or any other specific requirements you have and we will get on it.

Don't sweat it Cal, it just bruises Saeed's ego to be reminded that Mark Sullivan is a bigger name in the Safari world than he is! And always will be! Sullivan gets an article written about him from time to time in safari oriented and other hunting magazines while Saeed has to buy a full page add for AR to get any name recognition at all!
Hell, without AR, Saeed wouldn't have an outlet to publicly bash Sullivan, SCI, and now just recently added to the list ... SA PH's and their "meat", "not real hunting", "not PROPER buffalo" hunting practices!

Thanks, Ant!
I'm still subscribed, but it has been a challenge at times. The last time I called the office, I believe. At any rate, your magazine is my absolute favorite hunting magazine - far better than the advertising that passes for magazines here in the states. Between African Hunter and Man Magnum, I am well pleased with my magazine choices. They remind me of the Outdoor Life and Fur, Fish, and Game of the sixties when not every story was an advertisement.
good work, and I'm glad to see continuing my subscription will be easier.
And by the way, Cal, I enjoy your column, read it regularly even though I have no doubles, and I look forward to Part II
